Guardians of the Galaxy was the biggest success in the comic book movies genre last year. The movie not only impressed wide range of fans, but also received highly positive reviews from the critics. James Gunn comes back to not only direct the 2017 follow-up but also to write the screenplay for it! Well, that had to happen unless Marvel really wanted to do some gamble!
Now, it seems like they are still feeling like it is a gamble! That is what the director himself reveals! In a recent podcast interview on "˜Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend', Gunn claims that when he shared his idea for Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Marvel had the return expression, "Oh, whoa. That's risky!" However, they uttered a "˜But okay' as the symbol of trust they have on this young director!
The Idea That Brought Such Reaction!
According to Gunn, Marvel reacted that way when they got to hear his idea that Peter Quill's father won't be the same as the comic books narrates! He named somebody different and that appeared to be "˜risky' to the studio. But the director who has provided them a massive blockbuster with a B-grade comic book superhero team, demands all the trust in the world and Marvel seems to agree with that!
The Movie's Not Based On Anything!
James Gunn also claimed that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 would be an original story which is "˜not really based on anything'! The director claims that he had plotted the story of the sequel while working with the first one. The story would answer a number of questions asked that were put forward in Guardians of the Galaxy.
New But Key Characters To Arrive!
Previously, Gunn had cut off the chances of the characters like Nova and Ronan to re-appear in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and now he promises a couple of new characters to be introduced! The director states that the new characters would not only be "˜very important' to the Guardians franchise but also vital for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The director also promised that some of the characters will be focused "˜a little bit more' in the second installment of Guardians of the Galaxy.
