Jay Hernandez, who portrayed Diablo in this year's Suicide Squad, will be more than happy to return in the sequel. He is one of the few who have already said they want in, among whom can be counted Will Smith and Margot Robbie. This year, Diablo was one of the few standout characters in the movie. Thus, in the movie, his arc was the most complete, having found redemption in the end.
Obviously, this news is filled with spoilers for those who haven't seen the movie!
And to start again, we may say that it would be a bit difficult for Diablo to return in the Suicide Squad sequel. And that is because, in a supreme act of selflessness, the character sacrificed himself to save his teammates and defeat Incubus.
During an interview with Comic Book, Jay Hernandez acknowledges this difficulty. However, he also says, "Of course there is [a chance he could return]! I'm not saying anything, just that it's a possibility." So what chances are there for this character to make a comeback?
In the showdown against Incubus, Diablo doesn't use his full power in the beginning. And this proves to be a bad idea, since the antagonist throws him like a ragdoll. So, in order to stand a chance, Diablo completely morphs into the Aztec deity that possessed him. What follows can stand as a testimony of his strength, since he is able to actually gain the upper hand against Incubus.
And then he dies, being blown to bits.
But is he really dead? Can a deity actually die after being blown up with a conventional weapon?
Well, we guess we’ll find out more about this in the following months, when the sequel will most likely be announced.
