This was unexpected…even if James Gordon was rumored to be dead in the DCEU continuity, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that an actor was found to portray him in the upcoming Justice League films. And that actor is none other than J. Jonah Jameson"¦Or, as others know him, Oscar winner J.K. Simmons.
With this announcement, we guess we can say that some other rumors have been debunked. One of them even stated that the actor will reprise his role as Peter Parker's boss in the MCU, and quite recently, even Simmons expressed that he was available - we guess he was just throwing the fans off track. And onto a very wrong track, since the Justice League universe has nothing to do with Marvel.
Of course, at this point, there are no details concerning the extent of his role in Justice League Part One. But we can safely assume that this is a winning decision for Warner Bros. Furthermore, we are more than certain that J. K. Simmons wasn't cast for just a single appearance, which has the most chances of being just a cameo.
As everybody knows, with these big ensemble movies, even some superheroes play second fiddle. What could a simple Police Commissioner add to a movie in which gods fight each other?
So we can say that his appearance in the first Justice League film will most likely be followed by at least one more, in the planned Batman reboot. And this excites us even more, especially since Ben Affleck's movies (we are also certain that the actor will direct) are dark, psychological, and make the most of their stars.
Can J. K. Simmons follow in the footsteps of Gary Oldman? We are certain that he can!
The Justice League Part One will be released on the 17th of November 2017.
