Where the Comic Book Movies stand in a “˜Most Anticipated of 2016′ Poll

2016 - the year of comic book movies!

The year of comic book movies - that's how I would define 2016! I think it makes sense because more than half a dozen comic book based live-action movies are scheduled for release in this very year! So many new actors are set to be a part of the genre in this very year! So many characters from the pages of comic books are set to make their live-action debut in this very year! It DOES make sense to coin this year the one of comic book movies!

But I may be biased because I am in love with this genre. But what's in the mind of the majority? How do the general moviegoers see the comic book movies of 2016? Fandango has recently conducted a nationwide poll on the most anticipated movies, actors, characters, etc. So, let's see where the comic book movies stand according to this survey.

Rogue One & Finding Dory Ahead of Batman V Superman & Civil War!

Batman V Superman & Civil War
Neither of the comic book movies is the most anticipated movie of 2016!

Well, for a comic book fan, either of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice or Captain America: Civil War is likely to be the most anticipated movie of 2016. But neither of the two is the MOST anticipated movie of 2016 as far as general moviegoers are concerned! Thanks to the STAR WARS FEVER re-instigated by The Force Awakens, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story tops the list! In the second place stands the PixarDisney 3D computer-animated comedy adventure flick Finding Dory.

Batman V Superman grabs the third spot in this list with Civil War in fifth spot. The upcoming untitled Jason Bourne movie finds the spot between the DC and Marvel movies. X-Men: Apocalypse is the eighth most anticipated movie of 2016. While Star Trek Beyond and Independence Day: Resurgence stand ahead of the Bryan Singer flick, Zoolander No. 2 and The Jungle Book stand behindhand.

Wonder Woman is the Most Anticipated Comic Book Debutant!

Wonder Woman
She ranks first in this category!

Wonder Woman tops the list of most anticipated comic book characters set to debut in 2016. Deadpool stands second in the list. Quite understandably, everyone has forgotten that we saw Ryan Reynolds play Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Who actually doesn't want to forget that?

Villainous Harley Quinn stands ahead of superheroes Aquaman, Doctor Strange and Black Panther in the third spot. That's plausible to be honest - Margot Robbie's character topped the list of most popular Halloween costumes in 2015. Jason Momoa, Benedict Cumberbatch and Chadwick Boseman's characters grab in fourth, fifth and sixth spot of the list of most anticipated comic book character debuts of 2016 respectively. Melissa McCarthy tops the list of most anticipated female actors of 2016 for her role in the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot. She is followed by Scarlett Johansson (2nd) and Jennifer Lawrence (3rd) who made it to the list for their comic book movie roles – Civil War and Apocalypse. Emily Blunt (The Girl on the Train) grabs the fourth place and Charlize Theron (The Huntsman: Winter's War) grabs the fifth one in the list.

Among the male actors, Matt Damon stands ahead of all for his untitled Jason Bourne movie role. He is followed by three comic book movie actors - Will Smith, Ryan Reynolds and Ben Affleck. While the Deadshot actor stands in the second spot, Deadpool and Batman stars occupy the third and fourth spots respectively. The former Batman George Clooney grabs the fifth spot for his role in Hail, Caesar!

We got five names out of ten from the above two lists that come from comic book movies of 2016. 50 percent - that's a healthy presence obviously! But I expected something healthier to be honest!

New Jean Grey & Spider-Man Actors are the Rising Movie Stars!

Sophie Turner & Tom Holland
Sophie Turner & Tom Holland – the rising movie stars of 2016!

According to the poll, the new Jean Grey cast Sophie Turner and Spider-Man cast Tom Holland are the number one rising female and male movie stars of 2016. We have two more names from comic book movies in the list of the rising female stars and one in that of male rising stars.

Suicide Squad's Karen Fukuhara and Batman V Superman's Christina Wren grab the third and fourth spots among the female rising actors. Leslie Jones of Ghostbusters and Nadia Hilker of The Divergent Series: Allegiant fill the second and fifth spots.

Among the male rising stars, Cyclops cast Tye Sheridan ranks third. While Rogue One's Riz Ahmed ranks second, Race's Stephan James and Alice Through the Looking Glass's Ed Speleers rank fourth and fifth in the list.
