Summit Entertainment came into light with the announcement of a reboot of 1986 action fantasy movie Highlander. The movie will be the directorial debut of Cedric Nicholas-Troyan who received an Oscar nomination for his supervision effects on Snow White And The Huntsman. What adds further illumination to the venture is the recent report that states Summit Entertainment hopes to cast Mission Impossible superstar Tom Cruise for a role which was played originally by the legendary actor Sir Sean Connery.
More About Highlander And The Role
The role that Summit Entertainment want Cruise to cast on is of the immortal Spanish sword fighter Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez who stands as the mentor of the main lead Connor MacLeod which was played by French actor Christopher Lambert. Sir Sean Connery played the role with a Scottish accent and earned critical acclaim. The movie portrays the climax of an age-old battle between immortal warriors, illustrated through interwoven past and present day plot. Ryan Reynolds and Kevin McKidd have been linked to lead roles while Tom Cruise stands as the top choice for playing the mentor's character.
Whether Cruise Will Be Interested
Tom Cruise, who is currently busy with shooting of Mission Impossible 5, has a number of projects under his belt. He will appear in the sequels of his 2012 action thriller Jack Reacher and 1986 action drama Top Gun after MI 5. Though offered role in Highlanders isn't a leading one, the fact that Cruise has played supporting roles in movies like Interview With The Vampire and Magnolia suggest that he might dabble this one too. What makes the role special is that it was played by the ace Sir Sean Connery and needs an ace like Tom Cruise in the reboot. However, Cruise's party termed the project to be one of the many that are offered to him and is far away from any confirmation as his current focus is Mission Impossible 5.
