Marvel Comics is about to shake things up in a big way. The publisher has just released a new trailer for Ultimate Wolverine. The series, which hails from writer Chris Condon (Venom War: Daredevil) and artist Alessandro Cappuccio (Moon Knight) arrives in January. As per usual with Marvel’s Ultimate Universe, this is no ordinary take on Wolverine. To that end, this new series will turn him into an alternate universe version of The Winter Soldier. It looks like a rather violent version of him at that. Check it out.
The trailer is exceptionally bloody, with this wild new Wolverine going on a tear. Wolverine has been busy as of late. Marvel also revamped the X-Men universe earlier this year, with Wolverine getting a new solo series. Not to mention Hugh Jackman’s recent return as the character in Deadpool & Wolverine. But this is unlike anything we’ve seen. It’s a totally new take on the fan-favorite mutant.
Marvel revived its Ultimate Universe last year with a new line of books. The idea seems to be to give new readers an easy jumping-on point. It also is providing a new twist on familiar characters for longtime readers. This one also includes a little bit of a twist, as Marvel is making it clear that we don’t know who, precisely, is under that mask. Is it Logan? Is it someone else entirely? That’s the big question right now.
Here is the synopsis for Ultimate Wolverine.
“The Maker’s ultimate weapon! From rising star Chris Condon (That Texas Blood) and Moon Knight powerhouse artist Alessandro Cappuccio comes the story of the Ultimate Wolverine! In order to maintain control of their corner of the Maker’s world, three members of his council – Magik, Colossus and Omega Red – deploy their most lethal asset: The Winter Soldier! But who is the weapon behind the mask?”
“I couldn’t be more excited to be tackling one of the absolute greatest comic book characters of all time in a totally new and unique way with a powerhouse artist like Alessandro Cappuccio, a dynamite colorist like Bryan Valenza, and a showstopping letterer like Cory Petit,” Condon said “Each issue we have planned pushes the ideas that we all have about Wolverine to their limits – which is everything that an ‘ultimate’ Wolverine should be.”
Ultimate Wolverine #1 hits shelves on January 15, 2025.
