2016 is quite an important year for comic book movie lovers, with no less than 7 superhero flicks scheduled for release. Most importantly, three of these movies belong to Fox (who had no luck this year with the rebooted Fantastic Four). Thus there will be Deadpool's first (true) silver screen appearance, the mutant extravaganza X-Men: Apocalypse, as well as the first solo flick for Gambit.
But if we look a bit further, we'll see that 2017 can be even greater for the same studio, with the revitalized Wolverine franchise marking its third entry. And thanks to Hugh Jackman, we know that it will be an Old Man Logan adaptation. Can this work, with the studio not owning the most of the characters from the comic book?
Old Man Logan - a Fox adaptation?!?
After the debacle called Fantastic Four, and keeping in mind that the studio doesn't own any of the major characters from the Old Man Logan storyline (except for, of course, Wolverine himself), it is easy to see why the fans aren't too keen on seeing this arc brought to life just yet.
Old Man Logan presents what happens if the supervillains actually take over the world, with the completely obliterated. After X-Men: Apocalypse, this would be a very fine entry in the Mutant Cinematic Universe.
However, Hulk, Hawkeye, Red Skull, and all the others are owned only by Marvel. And Fox can do nothing about it. So the fans may say (and may be right) that studio will trash this beloved storyline too (just like it happened with the Dark Phoenix Saga.
And when we know that Michael Green (who also wrote Green Lantern) will pen the script, we can see how things can go terribly wrong with Fox's Old Man Logan adaptation.
Unless James Mangold finds a way, this project is doomed.

Old Man Logan - a tribute to the Mutant Cinematic Universe
Granted, Fox doesn't own any of the major characters from the Old Man Logan storyline. However, the studio doesn't necessarily need them in order to make it work - it wouldn't be the first time when a comic book movie has discarded its origins.
The director (as well as the writer, of course) should just keep in mind that Old Man Logan is, in fact, the inner fight between man and beast. In this fight, the man apparently wins.
And this is, basically, Wolverine's story. The secondary characters don't count as much as he does, if the Old Man Logan adaptation stays true to the spirit of the original storyline.
Of course, we won't get to see Wolverine bursting out of a monstrous hulk, but we may get something equally exciting from the Old Man Logan adaptation.

Old Man Logan - Old Man Sabretooth
In the comics, Old Man Logan's final fight, when the beast inside him wins the fight, is against the Hulk, a fight which leads to the Green Goliath consuming Wolverine. The mutant regenerates inside of the Hulk and bursts out, killing the villain.
As said in here, there are quite a few ways in which the major characters from the Old Man Logan storyline can be replaced for a Fox silver screen adaptation. But one of these characters, who needs to appear in the movie, is none other than Sabretooth.
The most well-known enemy of Wolverine, Sabretooth has a special connection with the hero - a connection which was captured in the panned X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Furthermore, it would be for the best if we had a bit of continuity in this trilogy - after all, the scenes with Sabretooth were the best parts of Wolverine Origins.

Liev Schreiber and Old Man Logan Sabretooth
While on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Live Schreiber was asked whether or not he will have a part in the Old Man Logan adaptation. His reply was one which actually didn't exactely answer the question: "I don't know if I'm invited, but what I heard was that the storyline is Old Man Logan. And when I heard that, I thought, "˜Well, you know"¦ there's Old Man Logan, there could be Old Man Sabretooth.’"
Sure enough, the Old Man Logan adaptation is in the early stages of development. But when you have Hugh Jackman tweeting a pic with himself training and you tweet do I have to do that"¦ well, there is no doubt: you will be in the movie.

Old Man Logan - A Fox Adaptation!
The Old Man Logan adaptation can work very well, as said in here. The villains may not even be the ones we mentioned. But it would make a whole lot of sense to have Sabretooth in this film. Considering the fact that Old Man Logan will be Hugh Jackman's last time as Wolverine, the studio should probably do the fans this service and bring the mutant's most well-known antagonist into the fold"¦
Of course, and again, there is the Fantastic Four reboot which may have estranged many fans for good. Nonetheless, bring Old Man Logan and Old Man Sabretooth together, for one final epic fight!
