10 Characters We’d Love to See Hulk Fight in the MCU

The Hulk is one of the strongest characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Mark Ruffalo’s character transforms into a mighty beast whose predominant strength is his…well…his strength, and he is extremely useful in physical combat as a result.

To date, he has fought characters like Emil Blonsky/The Abomination, Thor, Loki, the Chitauri, Ultron and his drones, and Iron Man in his Hulkbuster armor – but his shining moment undoubtedly came when he one-punched a giant Chitauri space whale in the first Avengers movie.

As an audience, we love to see the Green Goliath in action, and we can’t wait to see more of him fighting in future MCU films. This article will list ten characters we’d like to see him going up against.

We’d all love to see a Planet Hulk arc in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It seems unlikely to happen in the form of a standalone movie, but there’s a chance it could be incorporated briefly into the Thor: Ragnarok movie, given that Hulk has headed out into space and is due to join Thor in the 2017 adventure.

It would see Hulk being held captive, as a gladiator, by the Red King on the planet of Sakaar – just like in the comic book version of the story, in which he was forced to fight, among other characters, the Silver Surfer.

In the absence of the Silver Surfer – who, of course, isn’t owned by Marvel Studios – it would be a cool way to introduce Beta Ray Bill into the MCU. Bill fought Hulk in the Surfer’s place in the animated movie version of the story and it would make for an epic live action fight. More to the point, it would be a cool way of introducing him as a future ally to the likes of Thor and the other heroes of the MCU.

And now we move on to a character we’ve just mentioned in this entry.

The Red King

As already mentioned in the previous entry, the Red King is the ruthless ruler of the planet Sakaar – the planet on which the Hulk is enslaved as a gladiator in the Planet Hulk story arc – and it would be great to see him fighting against the Green Goliath in live action in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In both the comic book version of the story and the animated adaptation, before Hulk escapes the planet, he fights against the Red King – who is wearing his highly impressive power armor – in the gladiatorial arena.

The Red King would look amazing in live action – his red alien body in his golden power armour would be fantastic if it were created using modern CGI – and seeing the Hulk defeat him in combat in order to escape Sakaar would be great.

And now we move on to a group created specifically to combat the Hulk.

The Gamma Corps

The Hulk suffers from having a rather poor rogues gallery – which is probably one of the major reasons that another Hulk solo movie isn’t looking likely to happen any time soon – but an interesting opponent of his comes in the form of a group who were created specifically to combat him.

The Gamma Corps is a team of military-trained anti-heroes and villains who all come heavily armed with a vast arsenal of weaponry. They're all empowered by gamma radiation in some way, and each has a beef with the Green Goliath, as he’s allegedly negatively affected all of their lives in some way. The team members possess varying degrees of super-strength, durability, genius intellect, and fighting prowess, and each offers something different to the collective as a result.

A live action battle between the Hulk and the Gamma Corps would be fantastic to see in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – and it would be awesome if they were introduced at some point.

And now, we think it would be totally amazing to see the Hulk fight the following superhero in an MCU movie.

Spider-Man

They may be buddies and fellow Avengers in the comic books – and that’s what’s likely to happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well – but the Hulk and Spider-Man don’t always see eye to eye, and a live-action fight between the pair on screen would be awesome to see.

Tom Holland’s version of the Webbed Wonder is set to be the most talkative in combat yet – to the point that it is believed that an opponent might just tell him he talks far too much during fights in Captain America: Civil War. Obviously, we don’t want to see anyone taken out in such an encounter, but a relatively lighthearted scuffle, during which we get to see Spidey verbally batter the Hulk while dancing and jumping around him to avoid punches would be hilarious.

And now we move on to the least likely character on this list to ever face Hulk in the MCU.

Wolverine

Wolverine is one of the most savage and brutal characters in the history of Marvel – which gives him something in common with the Hulk. The pair have had some barbaric fights in their time in the comic books, in spite of the fact that they generally fight on the same side. It would be awesome to see that happen in live action in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Of course, Wolverine is currently tied up with Fox. Hugh Jackman has famously portrayed the character in the X-Men franchise since the year 2000. However, his stint as the regenerating mutant is soon to come to an end, and if Marvel Studios acquire Wolverine - as they have with Spider-Man, who came from Sony Pictures – this dream could eventually become a reality.

Hulk outmatches Wolverine in pretty much every area, but the mutant’s sheer viciousness, healing factor and adamantium skeleton and claws ensure he can give the the Green Goliath a fight – a fight that would be incredible to witness in the MCU.

And now we move on to a character so different from Hulk that their clashing styles would make for an interesting battle.

Doctor Strange

When it comes to superhero battles, none are more interesting than when the opposing parties are extremely different from each other – and you will be hard-pressed to find two superheroes more contrasting than the Hulk and Doctor Strange, so this fight would be awesome to see in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Hulk is a crude brute who relies on hitting his opponents extremely hard, while Doctor Strange relies on intricate magic spells that require care and concentration. Benedict Cumberbatch’s version of the character going up against Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk has the potential to be incredible viewing and a visual treat.

Hulk and Doctor Strange have battled in the comic books – with the Sorcerer Supreme using spells like the Crimson Bands of Cyttorak in an attempt to restrain the Hulk – and if Hulk ever goes rogue again in the MCU, it could happen in live action, too.

And now we move on to the most powerful heroic character on this list.

Sentry/The Void

The Sentry, aka Robert Reynolds, is one of the most powerful characters to ever join the Avengers. Although he is a hero, he is unpredictable and mentally unstable, which makes him very dangerous when you consider the amount of power he wields (he is described as possessing the power of “one million exploding suns”). In addition to super-strength, speed, and durability, he can fly, manipulate energy, and alter matter. He also has mental powers.

He has previously fought the Hulk in the comic books – most notably in the World War Hulk story arc – when the two fought to a draw, only after exhausting each other, and it would be fantastic to see them fight in live action (even though, in theory, the Sentry should annihilate the Hulk).

What makes the potential bout so intriguing, though, is the evil alter-ego of the Sentry known as the Void – a dark and powerful presence just waiting to be unleashed. In the comic books, the Void casually broke every bone in the Hulk’s body – wouldn’t that be a shocking thing to see as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

And now we move on to the first monstrously powerful evil character on this list.

Surtur

Surtur is a massively powerful fire demon from the realm of Muspelheim, who is expected to appear in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok – a movie in which Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner, aka the Hulk, is also expected to play a big part.

The demon will more than likely be summoned by Hela and Loki in order to bring about Ragnarok – a war in which many Asgardians will die – but Thor and the Hulk will be there to do everything they can to prevent him from doing too much damage.

Can you really imagine anything more awesome than seeing the Green Goliath fighting against a gigantic demon engulfed in flames (how awesome will Surtur look using modern CGI?!)? It has the potential to be the most incredible spectacle in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise to date – and it’s one we simply can’t wait to see take place.

Our next exceptionally powerful villain is one we’ve already met in the MCU.

Thanos

It has, of course, long been known that the Mad Titan Thanos is the big-bad of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He will be making his presence truly felt in the Avengers: Infinity War movies in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

Thanos will come to Earth wielding the Infinity Gauntlet and will, therefore, be far more powerful than any superhero in the MCU – but we’d still love to see Hulk throwing punches at the villain at some point!

Both characters are hugely imposing figures endowed with super-strength, but Thanos’ power dwarfs that of the Hulk’s, even without the Infinity Gauntlet in his possession. His fight with Hulk may need to come once he’s been relieved of the powerful golden glove in order to make it a fair contest – and an all-out brawl between the two would then be a sight to behold, and one that fans would remember for a very long time.

The final character in this list would be undeniably fantastic to see in an MCU fight with the Hulk.

Red Hulk

Green Hulk versus Red Hulk? In live action? Yes, please! The Red Hulk might be a somewhat reviled character in the comic books, due to his lack of character development, but there’s absolutely no doubt that two Hulks fighting against each other in the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be one hell of a spectacle.

William Hurt already plays the man who turns into the Red Hulk in the comic books – General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross – so there’s every chance that this fight could become a reality at some point in the MCU.

The regular Hulk is a mindless brute, while the Red Hulk is a thinking, calculating, brutal, weapon-toting individual, which makes them polar opposites, in spite of their obvious similarities. Red Hulk can absorb energy to make himself stronger, and he emits more and more heat as he gets angrier – all of which would make for an intriguing battle in live action.

And that’s that, folks! We sincerely hope you enjoyed this article!
