Spawn Reboot to Focus on Twitch

Prior to the announcement at San Diego Comic Con that Blumhouse would take on the Spawn reboot, creator Todd McFarlane said that any studio that agreed to let him write, direct, and produce would get an R-rated movie on a very low budget (he mentioned an extremely low $10 million).

After Blumhouse agreed to McFarlane’s terms, the creator revealed that the film will take its cues from Steven Spielberg's Jaws. He added that even though the shark was the driving force in that movie, other characters shared the spotlight. So Spawn will be a main character, but the movie will also focus on a cop named Twitch, who has been featured in the Spawn comics since the first issue.

Twitch (Comic Vine)

There's two big roles in the script. There's obviously sort of Spawn himself, although in a weird way it's not the biggest role, and then there's the cop. The cop is this character Twitch, who's been there since issue #1. Twitch is the role in this one, and I sort of refer to him as my Sheriff Brody, who is the sheriff in the Jaws movie. Although it was called Jaws, Jaws didn't really talk a lot in his movie, right? He just kind of showed up at the opportune time to make the movie worthwhile (Comic Book).

Although this new reveal may not please Spawn fans, the new take could be just what the first Spawn movie needs. And, given Blumhouse's record, it could certainly prove to be a hit with both critics and the larger audience:

It was Sheriff Brody, the humans talking, chasing the fantastical thing that sort of made the movie, and to me, there's that element. Everything else is normal in this story, other than (gesture) the shadow moves. And at times, even when it moves, the cop just sort of thinks he's losing his mind, so he doesn't even trust that the shadow's moving. If you're a bad guy, then this thing is going to come, and it's going to get you.

We think that this is definitely an interesting concept. Additional details will be revealed on the Spawn reboot over the next couple of months. We don’t have a release date as yet.
