Marvel and Fox Work on Two X-Men Live-Action TV Series

After the first reviews of Marvel's Jessica Jones showed that the studio didn't drop the ball as far as its Netflix properties are concerned, a rather saddening news has appeared. Only a rumor at this moment, we are waiting to hear something official about the cancelation of Iron Fist, the last Netflix series before the release of the Defenders.

Apparently, the rumor says that Iron Fist is wanted for the larger Marvel universe - thus making a show impossible.

Nonetheless, as soon as this rumor spread on the web, another one has appeared, concerning a Marvel hero everybody wants to see - Marc Spector aka Moon Knight. As the rumor goes, the character is being prepared for its own Netflix series. According to Umberto "El Mayimbe" Gonzales, Moon Knight will be introduced in the small TV universe in the same way the Punisher and Elektra are - via appearances in the already existing Netflix series.

Take these two with a pinch of salt, though, since none of them have been confirmed by the studio. What has been confirmed though is something equally - or even more - interesting. Something which could open the gates for a host of characters into the MCU: Fox and Marvel are working (together, that is) on two live action TV shows featuring the X-Men!

Next Find out the details about the 2 new tv-series:
“Marvel and Fox: Hellfire” and “Legion”

Marvel and Fox: Hellfire

The Hellfire Club, as seen in First Class

The Hellfire Club, as seen in First Class

The first of the TV series Marvel and Fox will coproduce is called Hellfire, the team of supervillain mutants we have already seen in X-Men: First Class. According to the official synopsis, the TV series will take place late in the "˜60's and will revolve around a young special agent mutants do exist - a power hungry woman, with extraordinary powers, wants to take over the world. She is doing so with the assistance of a group of millionaires, about which we can assume that also have special mutant powers.

Physically, the TV series will be produced by Fox - however, the producers are coming also from Marvel. We cannot expect to see the roster presented in the X-Men prequel/reboot, since the show plans to expand on the mythos behind the Hellfire club.

And this is something both the President of the Fox Entertainment branch and the President at the Creative Affairs branch at Fox say: while known characters will make their appearance, the Hellfire series will also explore new characters.

What does that mean? Does it mean that Marvel and Fox are planning on bringing some of the heavy-hitter mutants on the small screens? For the moment, this is the only info that we have.

Next check out all the details about “Legion”

Legion

Legion - the omega level mutant with thousands of personalities

Legion – the omega level mutant with thousands of personalities

The second Marvel and Fox produced TV show is called Legion, about whom the fans know to be the long lost son of Professor X - the leader of the X-Men. FX Networks has already ordered a pilot for this show, which is meant to present the origin story of David Haller, diagnosed with schizophrenia. However, he soon realizes that there is something else which is different about him - he has special powers, being a mutant.

What is interesting is who the producers of the TV series are: all those who have made the X-Men franchise a successful one - Bryan Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg. Besides these three, another name was also added: Jeph Loeb, the Marvel executive producer for, basically, all the Marvel TV series thus far.

What is even more interesting than that is the fact that most of the stories which have Legion as a central character also involve the X-Men. This isn't all, since Legion can be connected with quite a few New Mutants storylines - and this is a spin-off which will be produced by Fox for the big screens.

Thus far, these are the only pieces of news concerning this project - about which we are even more excited than about Hellfire. Seeing all of these talented people working on it, seeing that the Fargo TV series writer (Noah Hawley) is also onboard for the pilot - what can go wrong?!?

What can this Fox/Marvel partnership mean?

Bring Doom to Marvel!

Bring Doom to Marvel!

Well, we can be certain that Marvel and Fox producing these TV series together doesn't mean at all that the X-Men will arrive in the MCU. The X-Men Universe is very successful on its own, and Marvel does not have any need for them at the moment (with the Inhumans replacing them in the MCU).

What this means is that Marvel can start once again promoting the X-Men - who have faded out of the comics in the recent times. What is more important is that the studios actually got to chat about the characters!

We never have believed that Sony will make a deal with Marvel. Then we didn't believe that Fox will do the same - it is happening at this moment. And while we are certain that there is a long, looong way until we'll see the mutants in the MCU, we can expect for something else.

Fantastic Four and its villains are the other characters owned by Fox. Fantastic Four is the biggest superhero flop of recent times - so what if the 2020 projects are unnamed simply because Marvel doesn't want to ruin the surprise of their comic home?

After all, the villains of the Fantastic Four could easily replace Thanos after the Mad Titan is defeated"¦
