Blade Continuation Teased by Wesley Snipes - Can It Be So?

Can it get more badass than this?

Blade was first released in 1998, years before Marvel actually had a plan for a Cinematic Universe. It was a film about a human/vampire hybrid who goes on the hunt for other evil vampires - naturally, it was R-rated. And, even so, it proved to be successful.

So what happened to this character - it had two other R-rated sequels, as successful as the first one (although, clearly, Blade: Trinity was way beyond any fan's expectations).

The last film was released in 2004 and now we know what the future holds for us.

Blade

The first 3 Blade films were distributed by New Line Cinema. While there were talks about rebooting the franchise (or continuing in some way) after Wesley Snipes went to prison, it didn't happen. So the character's rights reverted back to Marvel.

Which is an extraordinary thing, given the way this studio treats smaller and bigger superheroes alike - and Blade is somewhere in between. So Wesley Snipes talked for a bit with Deadline during a San Diego Comic Con interview about his new TV series, The Player.

So, naturally, he was asked about the Blade franchise - and the actor revealed that he has already talked with Marvel studios about reviving the series, after 11 years of absence.

And the big reveal from Wesley Snipes is that the studio is actually considering making a continuation for Blade, although it isn't known if with the same formula. According to the actor, there was quite a productive meeting between him and the studio execs on this matter.

Blade IV isn't momentarily on Marvel's schedule for upcoming releases. But it is considered. Here is what Wesley Snipes says: "The project is controlled by Marvel and we did have a really productive and a wonderful meeting and we discussed a number of things. I don't know where it's on their schedule at this point, that hasn't been decided. I guess it's still up in the air." (via Screen Rant).

What can we take from this? Marvel is considering using the character again. However, the safest bet is that it won't be another film for the big screens (in this case, the R-rating will disappear, making way for a more family friendly feature).

The strongest possibility is for Marvel to team up with Netflix for a Blade series. And seeing that Daredevil was actually a 10 hour-long dark film, this is actually very good news. And the character will perfectly fit a universe populated by the likes of Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage.

Wait, there is more from Wesley Snipes on the next page!

Another possibility

Of course, Wesley Snipes is aware of the fact that things have changes with Marvel and that Blade IV has probably very few chances of actually happening. As said, the character was depicted in a too brutal manner to fit the current MCU.

Much like with Punisher, the silver screens aren't exactly the place where he is wanted. Plus, Wesley Snipes is already 52 years old, which is a bit too old for a multi-picture contract.

Wesley Snipes also said, "but if we don't do a Blade 4 with Marvel, we'll do something else. We have some other characters and some other concepts that are going to be just as exciting and hopefully just as successful." (via Screen Rant)

So are there any hopes for a Blade IV film to happen, in the same formula that made the original trilogy first 2 films so successful? There are, but they are actually anorexic. The safest bet, as said, is that Blade will also become a TV character, just like Daredevil. And this is awesome enough for us.

Blade and Spider-Man

It’s just wishful thinking. But Spider-Man did go against a vampire at one time…
