Ben Mendelsohn as Captain Marvel’s Main Villain? - Daily Superheroes - Your daily dose of Superheroes news

Ben Mendelsohn as Captain Marvel’s Main Villain?

As we approach the grand finale of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s third phase, the pieces continue to fall into place. Most recently, Kevin Feige revealed that Captain Marvel and her solo movie are among the most important of those pieces.

The film won’t be released until 2019, so it’s no surprise that we don’t have many details about the plot. But we do know a couple of things. Captain Marvel will be set in the 1990s, and will star Brie Larson as Carol Danvers and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. An art piece giving away a confrontation between Carol Danvers and the Skrulls has been the biggest reveal so far.

A new report from Variety may have revealed who will portray the leader of the Skrulls. According to the website, directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck approached Ben Mendelsohn to offer him the role.

The actor worked with both directors in Mississippi Grind, but he’s recognized more for his other roles, most notably as Orson Krennic in Rogue One, and as Daggett in The Dark Knight Rises.

In 2018, Mendelsohn will star as Nolan Sorrento in Steven Spielberg's highly anticipated Ready Player One. He’ll also play the new Sheriff of Nottingham in the Robin Hood reboot (starring Taron Egerton).

We should note that Variety added that Mendelsohn is currently in the early stages of talks for the role in Captain Marvel, so it’s conceivable that he may not get it. But the actor has recently enjoyed a number of successful ventures, and will appear in at least two high-profile flicks in 2018, so maybe Marvel should nab him before his schedule becomes too full.
