Rumor: The Batman Script is Being Rewritten “from Scratch”!

We recently came across a rumor suggesting that Warner Bros. was no longer eyeing a 2017 start on production for The Batman because Matt Reeves had a previous commitment to direct War on the Planet of the Apes. Now, a new online rumor has surfaced about another major adjustment that came about after the new director arrived.

Slash Film recently claimed that the screenplay for the first standalone movie for Ben Affleck’s Caped Crusader was being “rewritten from the ground up”. This could mean that anything we’ve previously heard about the story is no longer accurate.

The outlet speculated that Reeves won't be “simply taking on leftovers”, and is actively involved in “tailoring the film to his sensibilities”. However, no mention was made of who was doing the writing.

We've encountered numerous rumors about The Batman lately. First, we heard that Argo and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice scribe Chris Terrio had put the finishing touches on the script penned by Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns. Next, we heard that Affleck and Johns’ script was being heavily rewritten.

The very next day, there was another rumor that suggested that Warner Bros. already had a script, and they were “very happy” with it. So it’s becoming difficult to know what to believe in regard to this highly anticipated superhero movie.

But it must be noted that each of these reports came before Matt Reeves officially signed on as director. Since production won't begin anytime soon, it seems quite possible that the script is being rewritten from scratch.

At the moment, a 2018 release date for the DC Extended Universe installment seems out of the question. Of course, we can wait a little longer if it means that we'll eventually see an epic Dark Knight adventure.
