Captain Marvel: Tomb Raider Reboot Scribe Hired!

At one point, Marvel Studios planned to have Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, make her live-action debut as a supporting character in Marvel’s Jessica Jones. However, the studio had bigger things in mind for the character, and decided not to go that route. Instead, Danvers will be the main character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's first movie to feature a female superhero.

Wonder Woman - the DC Extended Universe’s first female superhero movie - performed so well among critics and at the box office, so all eyes are now on Captain Marvel. The studio and the fans are hoping that the movie yields similar results. With that in mind, Marvel has brought in a new screenwriter to write the next draft of the script.

Along with a number of other outlets, Deadline reported that the studio appointed Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Tomb Raider reboot and Gotham City Sirens) to pen the latest script for the March 8, 2019 release. Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman were the original writers, but LeFauve left to direct Disney’s animated flick Gigantic with Nathan Greno.

Captain Marvel is expected to move into production in January 2018, with Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck directing and Brie Larson as the titular superhero. During Marvel’s Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic Con International 2017, it was revealed that the movie will be set in the 1990s and will introduce the Skrulls, a race of extraterrestrial shapeshifters. A de-aged version of Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury will also appear.

A concept art piece featuring Larson as Captain Marvel was unveiled during the presentation, but it hasn't shown up online. Although we don’t have an official high-resolution version, a low-resolution version has made its way online, thanks to artist Andy Park. Check it out below!
