Zachary Levi Would’ve Loved To Play Deadpool If Ryan Reynolds Already Wasn’t!

If Ryan Reynolds
already wasn’t playing Deadpool, Zachary Levi would have surely thrown
his hat in the ring for the role.

Zachary Levi recently showed up at MegaCon Orldando 2019 and
answered loads of fan questions on various topics concerning his acting career.
One of these fans asked him what villainous character he would play in each
Marvel and DC Universe if he could choose. In response, the 38-year-old actor mentioned
Deadpool, although he is aware that the character is now an anti-hero and that Ryan Reynolds is doing a fabulous job at
playing him. In his words:

I’ve said many times
before that Deadpool was my favorite villain in the Marvel universe. He’s now
an anti-hero, I understand that, but not when I found him. He was definitely a
villain back then. And I would love to play Deadpool, except Ryan’s been doing
that very, very astutely.

Even though Marvel Studios is planning to reboot the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, it almost certainly won’t recast the Merc with a
Mouth – unless, of course, Reynolds himself decides to bow out. And even if
Reynolds vacates the role, the studio wouldn’t consider Levi for the role as he
has already portrayed Fandral in the
Marvel Cinematic Universe. So, it’s
highly unlikely that Shazam! star
would ever get to play the character on live-action big-screen.

During the Q&A session, Zachary Levi was also asked to
reveal which franchise was more fun to work in, Marvel or DC. Here’s how he
responded:

Everything’s a
competition, isn’t it? Well, I mean, I had more fun working for DC. I mean, I
got to be my own superhero with DC, bro. It was super cool that I was cast,
although I wasn’t able to do the first Thor, I was cast in that by Kenneth
Branagh, who I think is an incredible talent.

Of course, Levi picking DC over Marvel is understandable. His
Fandral, like other members of the Warriors
Three
, had very little to do in the Thor
movies. Meanwhile, Shazam! had him front and center, simply because he was
playing the titular superhero. So, he was never going to pick Marvel over DC.

Forgetting for a minute that Ryan Reynolds even exists, would
you say Zachary Levi is a good fit for the role of Deadpool? Share via comments
