Venom: Writers and More Life Connections

A couple of days ago, it was announced that Sony’s Venom movie is moving forward. While it was previously set to be included in the studio's Spider-Man universe, we don’t know at this point whether there’s any MCU connection (the web-crawler is now a part of the big Marvel family) or it will be an separate project.

Alex Kurtzman had been attached to helm the movie since it was announced in 2013, but it’s likely that will change, since Kurtzman is now involved in Universal's Monster Shared Universe. So we can expect that the studio will seek a new director.

Nonetheless, the studio has already announced that Scott Rosenberg (Con Air and the upcoming Jumanji reboot starring Dwayne The Rock Johnson) and Jeff Pinkner (The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the upcoming Jumanji, and The Dark Tower) have written the Venom script.

In other Venom-related news, many fans believe that Life (out this Friday) is in fact a prequel to Sony's supervillain movie. While no further evidence has been brought to sustain this theory, the creative team behind Life hasn't ruled out any connections.

Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick joked that Life is indeed a prequel to Venom (again, without ruling out the possibility of a connection). This was in no way a confirmation, but it wasn't a denial, either:

All of a sudden, someone’s out there going, “Bing! Lightbulb!” We are tied to Venom! We are the prequel to Venom! That’s the symbiote! Eddie Brock’s on Earth. The symbiote’s on Earth, finds Eddie Brock…(via Comic Book)
