A new interview finds Tom Hardy defending Venom's PG-13 rating and expressing the desire for a crossover with the Avengers.
The official announcement of Venom's rating bummed out a lot of fans earlier this month. For more than a year, it was suggested that the movie was eyeing an R-rating from the Motion Picture Association of America. But it eventually landed a PG-13 rating instead - which seemingly means that we won't see the titular antihero involving in ghastly acts of violence.
However, in a recent interview with MTV International, Hardy steps forward to defend the Ruben Fleischer flick's PG-13 rating. And while giving a justification for the rating, he casually reveals that he would love to see his character share the screen with the Avengers.
My littlest ones, they watch Spider-Man and Venom quite comfortably"¦ so it's not like they're scared by him. At the same time, there's a lot within the real estate that you can actually imbue with a complete sense of gratuitous violence, and if you wanted to I think you've got the right people for that job if you want to push, because that's where I'd love to go with it, and I'd love to go through all of the Avengers as well with him, but that's above my pay grade"¦ I want to run with the established family though, why not?
During the interview, Hardy's co-star Riz Ahmed, who portrays Life Foundation boss Carlton Drake in the October 5 release, suggests that Venom would just try to eat the Earth's Mightiest Heroes if a crossover takes place. Ahmed also shares that an encounter between Hardy's antihero and Mark Ruffalo's Hulk would a good matchup. Check out the interview clip below!
In the recent past, reports have surfaced on web suggesting that Sony Pictures is going for a PG-13 rating with Venom because that would keep their hopes of a potential crossover with and the Marvel Cinematic Universe alive. If the movie proves to be successful, there's a chance that Marvel Studios would invite Hardy to reprise the role in a project alongside Tom Holland's Spider-Man.
So, Hardy speaking in support of the PG-13 rating and expressing his interest in a potential crossover with the Avengers actually are more correlated than you think.
