Upcoming superheroes movies we are waiting for

 Spider-Man: Homecoming (7 July 2017)

Spider-Man- Homecoming

After an applauded appearance in Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland will return as the web-crawler in 2017, in Spider-Man: Homecoming. This won't be an origin story (obviously) and will also feature an extended cameo from Tony Stark, who seems to act as a mentor for the young superhero.

As Kevin Feige said, Homecoming will feature villains who haven't been seen before on the big screens. The main antagonist will be portrayed by Michael Keaton, who will become the Vulture. The Tinkerer (portrayed by Michael Chernus) is also set to appear, while we have already seen photos from the set with one of the Shockers (Bokeem Woodbine). Obviously, the trailers have all been kick-ass - and even if some might say that the entire plot has been given away, there are tons of unknowns about this flick.

To be noted, Spider-Man: Homecoming has one of the most diverse casts in the entire MCU thus far.

Thor: Ragnarok (3 November 2017)

Hela (Movie Pilot)

Hela (Movie Pilot)

After Spider-Man was announced in the MCU, Thor: Ragnarok was pushed back. So there is this downside"¦ However, Taika Waititi is directing - which is also great and gets our hopes higher! If you've seen the first trailer (which became Disney's most viewed trailer in its first 24 hours of all time), you know why!

In any way, this superhero movie will mean the end of Asgard, since Thanos will most likely retrieve the Tesseract from here. Even if it wasn't him, Ragnarok will still have come as a fitting end to the Thor franchise, since this is a cyclical event in the comics.

Obviously, Loki returns and we don't know what he's up to - is he finally joining Thor against the enemies of Asgard? Is he having his own secret plans, just like always? It remains to be seen. This will also mark the introduction of Hela (Cate Blanchett) into the MCU, who is rumored to be the counterpart of Death from the comics. Karl Urban portrays Skurge, while we are almost certain that Surtur has also been teased in the trailer.

Lastly, Hulk is in it! Thor: Ragnarok will also adapt, in part, the Planet Hulk storyline, with the Jade Giant having been transported to the planet of Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum). So this will be interesting, after the two heroes have skipped the Civil War.

Odin will be back. As the rumors said, he was banished on Earth by Loki - pictures on the New York set show Anthony Hopkins enjoying playing a hobo.

Doctor Strange will also cameo - although we have no idea to what end. Hopefully, he is the one who saw Hulk as a threat to Earth and banished him on Sakaar, thus opening the possibility of a World War Hulk adaptation.

The Justice League (17 November 2017)

Justice League

Justice League (WB)

Initially called The Justice League: Part One, the Zack Snyder directed ensemble movie will see almost the entire Justice League united on the big screens for the first time. We have already seen Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, Aquaman, and Flash in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. 2017 will give all of them full roles, with Cyborg having a central one (since he is made from a Mother Box, apparently).

The villain has been revealed at the end of Batman v Superman and he is Steppenwolf (who is portrayed by Ciarán Hinds). As the journalists' visit on the set has revealed, the Justice League will fight his army of Parademons throughout the entire flick.

It isn't known whether Darkseid will be explicitly teased or not - however, the rumor says that the ruler of Apokolips will cameo in the beginning of the movie, during a flashback scene presenting his first attempt of conquering Earth.

We've had a teaser-trailer released at last year's Comic Con, as well as a first full trailer this year - and it is safe to say that Snyder made a great decision in casting Jason Momoa as Aquaman. It remains to be seen whether his storytelling skills have improved since the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Black Panther (16 February 2018)

537ba26276348

Black Panther will be the first solo movie of the MCU centered on a black superhero. After appearing for the first time in Captain America: Civil War, Chadwick Boseman will return in 2017, together with an almost exclusive African-American cast.

Ryan Coogler (Creed, Fruitvale Station) will direct.

Until now, three villains have been confirmed. The first one is Klaw (Andy Serkis), who also appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Michael B. Jordan (who was the star of Coogler's abovementioned movies) will be the main antagonist, Erik Killmonger. Lastly, Winston Duke was announced as Man-Ape, most likely as a villain in flashbacks for the previous Black Panthers (yes, the movie might feature a history of Wakanda's leaders).

There isn't much known about the plot of the film, other than the fact that Black Panther has to fight enemies from within and from outside of Wakanda (Killmonger and Klaw). Given how Civil War ended, we sure can believe that the Winter Soldier will be an ally of T'Challa, after the two have previously clashed.

Avengers: Infinity War (4 May 2018)

avengers-infinty-war-imax

Every superhero movie in the MCU has led to this: a final showdown between all superheroes and the Mad Titan. This is the mammoth of all mammoth movies so far, so we can expect for a great spectacle - it is worth to mention from the beginning that the movie will be directed by the Russo Brothers, who nailed it when making Captain America: The Winter Soldier and who did it again in Captain America: Civil War.

Plot wise, we cannot say anything now. However, the Mad Titan himself has started collecting Infinity Stones, already being in the possession of the Infinity Gauntlet (but is it the real one, or a fake?). Since we believe that he will destroy the Nova Corps as well as (at least) helping in the obliteration Asgard, his final visit will be on Earth, for one last stone.

It will be the one on Vision's forehead (although Doctor Strange also has one, the Time Stone). Most likely, the superhero will perish (or will become corrupted). Most likely, the movie will end with Thanos having gathered all the Infinity Stones.

Who will be in it?

We can expect for some major deaths as well"¦

Ant-Man and the Wasp (6 July 2018)

ant-man-waspjpg-6ff214_1280w

Marvel has announced the sequel to Ant-Man, titled Ant-Man and the Wasp. Given the success of the first installment, there was little to no doubt that this will happen.

There is nothing known about this movie yet Рother than the fact that Wasp will be featured for the first time in the MCU. Also, we can expect for Paul Rudd's Scott Lang to be on the run again, after the events of the Civil War. Peyton Reed will return in the director's chair, as well as the awesome Michael Pe̱a as the awesome Lois.

The rumor is that Sharon Stone will become the first Wasp, thus reuniting with her Basic Instinct co-star Michael Douglas (who portrays Hank Pym).

We can speculate at this point that this sequel will have something to do with the events of the Infinity War - although we have no idea what that means. Will Ant-Man once again plan a heist? Will he steal something from Thanos? We'll have to wait and see.

Venom (5 October 2018)

This was quite a surprise - Sony is moving forward with a Venom movie, sooner than anybody would have expected. Even more, if we are to believe Tom Holland, there will be no connection between Sony's Venom and the MCU.

Does this mean that a new Spider-Man will be introduced? This sounds like another "great" idea from the studio that ruined 2 Spider-Man franchises already, so why not?

In any way, other than the release date, nothing is known about this project.

Aquaman (21 December 2018)

Aquaman (Screen Rant)

Aquaman (Screen Rant)

Jason Momoa will be Aquaman in the first solo outing of the superhero in 2018. He has already appeared in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (in a cameo nobody really liked or wanted) and he will pop-up in the Justice League as well (based on the trailer, he is already a fan-favorite).

Literally nothing is known about the plot. Other than the mentioned star, Amber Herd will reprise her Justice League role as Mera, while Willem Dafoe will also return as Nuidis Vulko after a cameo in Justice League.

James Wan (Insidious, The Conjuring) is directing.

As far as the villain of the movie is concerned, Aquaman will have to face Ocean Master (Patrick Wilson), who is apparently the king of Atlantis in this continuity, as well as Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). Most surprisingly, however, was the announcement of Dolph Lundgren as another possible antagonist, King Nereus (we believe, however, that he was introduced in the movie in order to provide a bit of backstory for Mera).

Aquaman sounds more and more interesting with each piece of news dropping.

Captain Marvel (8 March 2019)

Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel (Geek Tyrant)

After the Avengers will meet defeat during the Infinity War (there is no way the 3rd Avengers will have another outcome), Captain Marvel will come to aid them. Or, at least, this is how we see it happening.

This fan favorite superhero has been teased by Kevin Feige for quite a while before being officially announced, pretty much like Doctor Strange. It is expected for this to be an origin story too.

In the comics, Carol Danvers gained her cosmic powers when a Kree device exploded in her proximity. This could fit in easily in the MCU.

Brie Larson was announced to bring the main star to life. It is rumored that Niki Caro and Elizabeth Wood will direct.

SHAZAM! (5 April 2019)

shazam__by_xionice-d7xyxxz

We do know that SHAZAM! will have Black Adam (Dwayne The Rock Johnson) as the main villain. And that is about all. No main cast, no director, no writer.

We can expect for it to be, though, more child friendly than what we see right now in the newly formed DC Movie Universe. There are a couple of actors teasing the lead role, but there is nothing official. If it was, we are more than certain that Dwayne the Rock Johnson would have made the announcement on social media.

However, more recently and based on what The Rock is currently cooking (Black Adam solo movie and enemy for Man of Steel 2), we can't really bet that SHAZAM! will happen.

Avengers 4 (3 May 2019)

promo-poster-for-avengers-infinity-war-parts-1-and-2

This will be the culmination of all the superhero movies from the MCU. We can expect for Thanos to already have all the Infinity Stones and to become nigh omnipotent.
avengers-infinty-war-imax (1)

We can expect for the Avengers roster to drastically change and for all the known superheroes to unite in order to take the Mad Titan down. We can also expect for some new and really powerful superheroes to appear, though we cannot say which ones.

The Russo Brothers will return for this one too.

The Justice League Part 2 (2019)

maxresdefault (2)

We have no idea what this superhero movie will be about, but we can expect for all the dominos from the first part to be knocked down. As said, though, the strongest possibility (or the one that we'd like) is for Darkseid to make his full appearance.

Also, the main Green Lantern (or maybe all of them) will come in Earth's aid.

Justice League Incomplete

Justice League Incomplete

In any way, and most likely, the release date won't be kept (initially, it was announced for the 14th of June 2019) - and that is because many other DC/Warner Bros movies have been announced (with no particular release date) for 2019.

Cyborg (2020)

Cyborg (Screen Rant)

Cyborg (Screen Rant)

Victor Stone becomes Cyborg - but this isn't an origin story, since the character's transformation was seen in Batman v Superman and since he will also appear in Justice League.
Justice-League-Trailer-Cyborg-672x372

Other than this, there is nothing else known. But the rumor is that Warner Bros is testing the character in Justice League and The Flash - thus, if the audiences don't respond to it, the Cyborg movie will be scratched and, maybe, replaced with a Teen Titans one.

But this is just a rumor.

Initially, the movie was announced for the 2020. However, given the many changes of the DCEU roster, we doubt it that the release date will be kept.

Green Lantern Corps (24 July 2020)

green-lantern-corps-movie-director

Green Lantern Corps was announced at the 2015 San Diego Comic Con. In this way, the movie won't be centered on just one Earth-based superhero, but on all the Earth-based Lanterns. There is no way for anybody to know anything about this movie.

Given the release date, there is nothing known about this film. We can expect, however, for some of the Green Lanterns to be introduced in the second Justice League flick (if it will be released until 2020).

Other than that, we do know that it will be a sort-of buddy-cop movie in space, with Hal Jordan and John Stewart taking the lead roles.

As with the last DCEU flicks on this list, we can't really be certain that this movie will happen or that it will be released in 2020.

Untitled Warner Bros and Fox projects

Batman in Justice League

Batman in Justice League

To nobody's surprise, Marvel hasn't got any untitled projects for the future - and that is great, since it is a sign that Feige has planned everything to perfection.

On the other hand, things aren't so neat with the other shared universes.

In the DCEU, it is certain (or as certain as it can be) that Ben Affleck will star in a Batman solo flick, with Deathstroke being one of the villains (originally, until Affleck stepped down from the director's chair, Deathstroke was supposed to be the main antagonist). It is rumored that the film will borrow from more than one comic book storyline.

Margot Robbie has already signed for a Harley Quinn spin-off (Gotham City Sirens, with David Ayer attached to direct), while a second Suicide Squad movie has also been announced (for 2019). Also, the Man of Steel sequel has been finally made a priority by the studio – with the original rumor being that Brainiac will finally arrive (however, the plans seem to have changed, since Black Adam is now rumored to be the main antagonist).

Furthermore, Black Adam is said to receive his own solo flick - which is weird, especially since The Rock said that Black Adam is one of the most complex superheroes out there.

And it isn't over just yet. The Flash (originally scheduled for a 2018 release) has been put on hold indefinitely after losing 2 directors. So this is quite a hit the DCEU has taken. But don't worry! In 2019 we will get a Batman-focused mini-DCEU, so to speak.

Sure, The Batman doesn't have a release date. However, the aim is to release it in 2019, the same year when Warner Bros wants to release Gotham City Sirens, Suicide Squad 2, Nightwing, Deadshot, and Batgirl. So that's a handful.

As far as the X-Men universe is concerned, we are definitely getting a Deadpool sequel, which will also feature Cable - surprisingly, Josh Brolin (Thanos) will portray him, while David Leitch will direct. There is no release date just yet, but we can assume that it will be in 2018 or 2019.

As far as Gambit is concerned, it has lost its second director (or third, but who is counting) and we haven't heard anything about it since its release date was last changed.

But we do know that X-Force and New Mutants are being in development, with the latter waiting to shoot this summer.

Lastly, the core X-Men franchise will get a sequel. Bryan Singer won't return in the director's chair and it is expected to once again try and adapt the Dark Phoenix storyline.

Harbinger

Harbinger (Reddit)

Harbinger (Reddit)

For about a year, we already knew that Sony was planning to bring characters from the Valiant Comics to life. As soon as the Spider-Man deal was announced, it was pretty obvious that the studio will search for an alternative.

While Bloodshot was announced, in 2015, to be the first in the series, most recently the news broke out that Sony is planning for a Harbinger flick to open the Shared Universe. Thus, we can expect for the first movie to lay the foundation, presenting this new world and its superpowered inhabitants.

We don't know how much Sony will follow the original storyline. However, if it happens so, then it will be something new in the modern age of superhero movies, since its focus will be on outcasts from a covert evil organization.

It remains to be seen when the movie will actually be released.

Bloodshot

Bloodshot

Bloodshot

Bloodshot is a superhero movie with plenty of crossover potential. It will be about a former soldier who has lost his memory and who is injected with nanites. In this way, he is able to shapeshift, regenerate, as well as interface with any kind of technology.

Little is known about this project, though. What we do know is that it is produced by Sony and was announced after the deal with Marvel over Spider-Man was made. Hopefully, they won't ruin this character.

At one moment, the awesome directors of John Wick (David Leitch and Chad Stahelski) were onboard to helm the movie. But they dropped out after Bloodshot was delayed. It remains to be seen if Sony will be able to bring this character to life and make a shared universe for on the Valiant Comics.

There is no certain release date.

Justice League Dark

One version of the Justice League Dark

One version of the Justice League Dark (CBM)

This is a movie on which Guillermo del Toro worked - so we do know that it will feature a fantastic world filled with fantastic creatures. However, most likely, the script will be twitched until the movie is released (Warner Bros has made it a priority, reportedly).

We don't know which of the heroes will appear. However, most websites reports that Constantine, Zatanna, Etrigan, Deadman, and Swamp Thing will be included in the team. We are also happy to hear that Doug Liman will direct, after he dropped out of Gambit (we haven't heard a thing about this movie - most recently, it was rumored that Channing Tatum also dropped out).

Obviously, it isn't known at this point when the movie will be released.
