It looks as though 21st Century Fox is quite serious about making their Kitty Pryde movie. They just brought in a hotshot comic book writer to pen the script.
When the Disney-Fox deal was announced, we predicted that the studio would scrap any X-Men and Fantastic Four projects that hadn't started filming. More recently, we heard that the proposed merger actually had no impact on them! In addition, a Kitty Pryde movie that we hadn’t heard about is in development.
According to reports, Tim Miller, who stepped down as director of the Deadpool sequel due to creative differences with lead actor/producer Ryan Reynolds, was selected to direct the Kitty Pryde movie. Soon after, The Hollywood Reporter and other outlets reported that Brian Michael Bendis, a celebrated Marvel Comics writer, would write the script.

In a clear reference to Chris Claremont and John Byrne’s Uncanny X-Men #143 from March 1981, Fox is developing the project under the working title 143. In that comic, Kitty Pryde, who was introduced a year prior, single-handedly took on an N'Garai demon at the X-Mansion. Whether Bendis and Miller will adapt that storyline remains to be seen.
In the X-Men movies The Last Stand and Days of Future Past, Ellen Page played the mutant who could phase through matter and project an individual’s consciousness back in time. However, neither of the reports we’ve seen specified whether the 30-year-old Canadian actress would reprise her role. Two other actresses had portrayed the character before Page (Sumela Kay in X-Men and Katie Stuart in X2), so it wouldn't be surprising to see yet another actress take on the role.
