The Trailers That Make The Genre Look Good

In a top of the 20 most viewed trailers of 2014, The Hollywood Reporter lists an unexpected number of fantasy / sci-fi titles. However, that should come as no surprise if you think visually and plot-wise - at least - these genres are the most rewarding. "˜Cause what is fiction, in the end, if not an attempt to face-lift reality or downright replace it with a better version of it?

While Fifty Shades of Gray tops the bill, it is closely followed by trailers of some of the most eagerly awaited comic book movies due to arrive in theaters in 2015 and in 2016. Some have already hit the big screen in 2014. Also, notice how the two trailers of The Hunger Games: Mockinjay - Part 1 are both in this top.

Here's how titles like X-Men: Days of Future Past and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies ranked.

Seven trailers make it to the top

Mad Max: Fury Road, due to arrive in theaters May 15th, 2015, comes 19th. We'll see if, by then, the Comic-Con trailer moves ahead in this top.

The second trailer of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes ranks 17th. In just two months, it registered some 29 million views.

Released under the banner of 20th Century Fox, X-Men: Days of Future Past comes 14th, scoring no less than 32 million views for its second trailer.

37 million vies for the first trailer of Transformers: Age of Extinction. That score brings the flick a well-deserved 12th place in this top.

With a teaser trailer that collects some 45 million views, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies comes 9th.

Two Disney flicks in top 3. With some 78 million views, Avengers: Age of Ultron comes third, only after"¦

Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens. What's the score? Oh, yes, 81 million views for first teaser trailer, released no sooner than November 28th.

Now, if you want to see the complete top, check the list below. What do you make of it? Some claim these numbers are not accurate, whereas others believe plenty of extra titles should have been shortlisted here. Do you think the top reflects reality? Leave your comments here.
