You’ve probably already heard that Avengers: Infinity War shattered North American and worldwide opening weekend box office records set by Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Furious 7, respectively. This certainly reflects the massive interest in the Avengers franchise as a whole, and in the still-untitled Avengers 4.
The movie’s title has been a hot topic among fans for months. Numerous lists of potential titles have popped up online, but Marvel Studios has held off on officially announcing their final selection. In 2017 Marvel president Kevin Feige explained the delay in announcing the title, saying that doing so would spoil the ending of Infinity War. The studio opted to wait until the majority of fans had the opportunity to see it.
More recently, Feige admitted that keeping the Avengers 4 title under wraps may backfire, as it appears that fans’ expectations are now so high that the studio will never be able to meet them.
However, Anthony and Joe Russo recently expressed a much greater degree of confidence in the title during a conversation with Bustle at the Los Angeles junket for Infinity War:
We do have a name for it. We’re just not announcing it. And I think we came to that name fairly early in the development process. It speaks to the heart of the story.

The directors added that they considered "quite a few names" before settling on their final choice. Asked whether they’d ever considered the extremely simple Avengers 4, Anthony replied:
No, I think it’s just out there as a placeholder, because these movies get announced so early before they’ve been written and worked through.
