Thanos’ Big MCU Endgame

With Avengers: Infinity War waiting to be released next year, we’re still wondering about Thanos' big plan for the Infinity Stones and Infinity Gauntlet. Until now, we’ve had nowhere to look for clues, other than the comics.

In the comics, Thanos was infatuated with Death herself, and tried to woo her by using the power of the Gems to erase half the Universe from existence. But there’s a problem for the MCU: Death wasn't introduced as an entity in the shared universe until now. Sure, there have been rumors that Hela is in fact the movie version of the character, and that the entity herself will appear when the Infinity War arrives.

But again, at the moment there is no Death in the MCU. So Thanos' endgame might change.

According to Avengers: Infinity War co-writer Stephen McFeely, the MCU version of the Mad Titan could also use the Infinity Stones to destroy half the universe. However, McFeely doesn't give any other clues as to why he would do that beyond the following:

His goal is to re-balance the universe as he sees it. So when he figures out that the Infinity Stones could do this for him at the snap of a finger, this becomes his main goal. (via CBR)

Thanos' endgame could be adapted to the big screen, but we can still assume that the Mad Titan has other reasons for trying to reshape the universe. Otherwise, with the little bit of information we have about the character, his motivation won't elevate him above the rest of the MCU villains.

Even Kevin Feige admitted that the villains of the MCU aren't exactly the best characters.
