The CW Cancels Legends Of Tomorrow And Batwoman

The Arrowverse just got a lot smaller on The CW. Word has come down that the network has canceled both Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman. The shows just wrapped up their seventh and third seasons, respectively. Legends co-showrunner Keto Shimizu broke the news to fans on Twitter, with Batwoman showrunner Carline Dries doing the same.

“Just got the sad news that Batwoman will not be seeing an S4. I am bummed, but full of gratitude. What an honor to make 51 episodes. So many inspiring, brilliant people contributed to this series. Thank you producers, cast and crew. Thank you, fans! We love you,” Dries said. Meanwhile, Shimizu had the following to say in a series of tweets.

“Well, folks. It’s been an incredible run. However, the CW has let us know that there will be no season 8 of #LegendsOfTomorrow. We are heartbroken, but also immensely grateful for the amazing work our cast, crew, and writers have contributed to the little show that could. Thank you to our fans; your love and passion for our strange band of misfits has made every break, every script, every daily, every cut, and every mix worth all the hard work. We see you, we love you, and you’ll always have a place on the Waverider.”

Legends of Tomorrow lasted for seven seasons, ranking as one of the longest-running shows on the network overall. The series debuted in January of 2016 and ran for 110 episodes. The frustration for fans is that season 7 left off on a cliffhanger that won’t be resolved. That is, unless the creators can find another way to resolve it, be it with a comic book, streaming movie on HBO Max, or something along those lines.

Batwoman, meanwhile, debuted in October of 2019. Originally, Ruby Rose led the show as Kate Kane. However, the actor departed after the first season. That paved the way for Javicia Leslie to take over as a new lead character named Ryan Wilder, who assumed the identity of Batwoman. The show ran for 51 episodes overall before the cancelation.

The Arroverse is now far smaller than it once was. The Flash and Superman & Lois have already been renewed. However, Supergirl and Black Lightning ended last year. Naomi has one season in the books but has not yet been renewed. It’s possible that these cancelations have something to do with the potential sale of The CW. Warner Bros. may want to keep DC exclusively for HBO Max in the future.

Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman are currently streaming on The CW’s website.
