The Suicide Squad Footage Released in New HBO Max 2021 Movie Preview

A new look at The Suicide Squad has been released. Though brief, some choice bits of footage from the highly-anticipated DC Comics film have been revealed in a new HBO Max trailer. The video highlights many of the big movies that are coming to the streaming service in 2021. Have a look.

Specifically, there are several shots from director James Gunn’s upcoming entry in the DCEU. For example, we get a look at the team, including Margot Robbie in her new Harley Quinn outfit. Plus, we get a taste of John Cena as Peacemaker. Cena will, additionally, be reprising the role in a TV series for HBO Max as well, which Gunn wrote.

The entire Warner Bros. movie slate in 2021 is coming to HBO Max, which is a lot like what was done recently with Wonder Woman 1984. As a result, on the same day, the films will be released in theaters domestically. Since they will also get a theatrical release overseas, Warner Bros. will make some money at the box office. Many in the industry viewed this as bold. Because many A-list directors, actors and even talent agents were unhappy with the decision, it wasn’t exactly bold in a good way. The studio felt this was the way to go as a result of the pandemic still killing the box office.

Gunn, known for his work on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies, wrote and directed The Suicide Squad. The cast is massive and also includes Idris Elba, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Michael Rooker, Flula Borg, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Steve Agee, Mayling Ng, Peter Capaldi, Alice Braga, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, Storm Reid, Taika Waititi, Joaquín Cosío, and Juan Diego Botto

“With James Gunn, it’s a whole new universe. It’s a completely different thing,” Kinnaman, who reprises his role as Rick Flag, said in a recent interview with The Playlist. We kinda all just started with a blank slate…It doesn’t feel like we’re doing a sequel in any way. It’s a strange kinda middle ground of a reboot. Something in between there… I don’t think [Gunn] had to compromise one iota of his vision. He really got to do exactly what he wanted. And it’s definitely going to be the biggest budget R-rated movie that’s ever been made. And it’s heavily R-rated and super silly. It’s really like childish, childish humor and it also finds these profound moments where you get really emotionally moved. And then it’s super violent and then it’s really silly again…Every character is just so ridiculous.”

The Suicide Squad arrives in theaters and on HBO Max August 6.
