Spider-Man: A Clean Slate

The Amazing Spider-Man 2

While The Amazing Spider-Man movies might have had a few fans, both of the films underperformed at the box-office - the Sony execs were looking forward for a huge slate of films to be released before The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hit the big screens, but they changed their mind when they saw that it took in just $700 million worldwide (in the US it took just a bit over $200 million, on a budget of $200 million without marketing costs).

So, obviously, they wanted to change something about the world's favorite web-slinger.

The gift that keeps on giving

We're talking of course about the recent Sony hack attack - just a couple of days ago, a number of emails concerning the fate of Spider-Man were revealed. And, to everybody's surprise, Marvel did want to collaborate with Sony and borrow Peter Parker for a whole new trilogy and a surprise appearance in Captain America: Civil War.

Furthermore, Sony had in mind a couple of producers. You may have seen the small movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier - well, the Sony execs had in mind to make Anthony and Joe Russo the executive producers for the new Spider-Man trilogy. But the brothers already had other plans.

A clean slate? Is that even possible?

Of course it isn't possible. The rumor is that Andrew Garfield has already been fired, so The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was the last film in which we saw him slinging from the web. The same emails revealed that Andrew was very upset of how the sequel worked and he made it clearly that it was only the fault of the studio for interfering with the creative process.

And if we are to consider the fact that Sinister Six is planned as a reboot, then we will indeed see a new Spider-Man (whether it is made in collaboration with Marvel or some other company, it still remains to be seen).

But is this a clean slate? No it isn't, because no fan could ever erase from his memory the debacle called The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
