Showrunner Says We Won't See a “Cured” Jessica Jones in Season Two!

Jessica Jones will not be cured from her trauma in her show's second season!

Despite the fact that Jessica Jones Season Two isn't coming any sooner than 2018, Melissa Rosenberg and her writing team are already halfway through its writing process. That's what the showrunner herself revealed while speaking to Esquire recently. And since the writing process has progressed that far, Melissa can now afford to let us know what we should expect from the upcoming season.

What we surely shouldn't expect from Jessica Jones Season Two is to see Krysten Ritter's character having miraculously recovered. According to the showrunner, Jessica was "kind of messed up", even before David Tennant's Kilgrave had come to her life, and so in the second season, they can "explore what's possible for her moving forward".

Melissa Rosenberg once served as the head writer of the Showtime series Dexter, where she learned that one can "advance" the character, but should never want to "cure" him. She explains:

With Dexter, the moment he felt guilt or accepted that he was “bad”, the show’s over. He’s no longer a sociopath. The equivalent for us would be if Jessica somehow recovered from the damage that had been done to her. People don’t just heal, you don’t go through that just to say, “Oh, he got arrested, he’s in jail, I’m OK now.” That trauma is a huge part of who she is now.

With Kilgrave dead and Mike Colter's Luke Cage busy with his own adventures in Harlem, there's ample scope in the second season to explore the relationship between Ritter's character and her adopted sister, Rachael Taylor's Trish Walker. According to Melissa:

People would love that. I sometimes think there’s sort of a prurient interest in that, like, can’t women just be friends? I feel like for me that’s what is unique about the relationship, that they are such intimate friends, and I think they don’t have to become lovers"”that being said, one never knows.

During the interview, the showrunner also praises Marvel by saying that they are "very smart" as they "enjoy collaboration". And she also insists that there is "never one maniac trying to take the ownership"!
