Shazam! Director on Cancellation Rumors

Although Aquaman and Wonder Woman 2 are already confirmed, and Aquaman has wrapped up production, we’re seeing online rumors that Warner Bros. will put the entire DC Extended Universe on hold for at least a couple of years.

These rumors followed Justice League’s disappointing $94 million US opening, which has led everyone to believe that Warner Bros. is going to lose money because of the film’s bloated budget.

Again, it’s just a rumor. Aquaman is entering post-production, and Wonder Woman 2 will obviously get the greenlight after the first installment was so successful. It’s highly unlikely that the studio will just drop the projects.

On top of that, the studio has announced additional movies, some of which have already been cast. For example, Shazam! has its Billy Batson (Asher Angel) and Shazam (Zachary Levi). Furthermore, director David F. Sandberg has been teasing the project on his social media accounts for some time, reassuring comic book movie fans that Shazam! is in good hands.

Sandberg recently took to Reddit to address the rumors:

Nobody told me. Can I take the day off tomorrow, then? I really want to sleep in (via Screen Rant).

We’re certain that, as they did after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Warner Bros. will consider altering the direction of the shared universe even further. But that doesn't mean that they’ll simply cancel everything that’s in the works.

Since a Flashpoint would probably be the easiest way to soft-reboot the DCEU, the studio really has no reason to do that.
