In the last couple of days, Schmoes Know has dropped a number of scoops on upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe installments, including Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, and Avengers: Infinity War. Now they have come up with a new one on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. They claim that The Elders of the Universe, a powerful cosmic group of last survivors of different alien races, will have a key role in the James Gunn venture.
According to the website, this group is "the impetus" for Chris Pratt's Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, to seek out his father, Kurt Russell's Ego the Living Planet. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, we will see four Elders at a minimum, one of whom has already appeared in the original movie, Benicio del Toro's The Collector. Elizabeth Debicki's Ayesha and the unspecified characters of Sharon Stone and Sylvester Stallone are the others.
This is interesting, because Ayesha has never been an Elder in the comics. And at Marvel's San Diego Comic-Con International panel, Gunn described Debicki's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 character as "the High Priestess (of a ) genetically perfect people, (known as) the Sovereign". Isn't that a bit contradictory?

Then there's the fact that Stallone was seen in the SDCC footage as a Nova Corps member. If the rumor is true, he must be an Elder who has been undercover for some reason! Sharon Stone claimed that her character's superpower is related to “heat“, and that's the only thing we know about the mysterious character.
The website notes that Stallone and Stone's characters are not necessarily Elders in the comics, but may be other characters "who have been tweaked a bit to fill the roles required" in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
While Jeff Goldblum's The Grandmaster is one of The Elders in the comics, the character seems to be "an exiled one" in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as he is appearing in Thor: Ragnarok, reportedly as the overseer of the gladiator battles on the planet named Ragnarok. Whether he appears or is mentioned in the May 5, 2017 release remains to be seen.
