First Dark Phoenix Trailer Finally Arrives!

The first trailer for Dark Phoenix has finally arrived!

Nine comic book movies are scheduled to arrive in 2019, and perhaps, the least anticipated of all is Dark Phoenix. One might have blamed the lack of marketing for that. But now, the first trailer for the X-Men installment has arrived – sadly, the movie still doesn't feel any more interesting.

The trailer includes around two minutes of never-before-seen footage from Dark Phoenix – which is more than what most first trailers contain. However, there's hardly anything in it that would entice us to go and watch the movie in theaters on February 14, 2019.

It revolves heavily around Sophie Turner's Jean Grey and her struggles, making an attempt to identify the movie as more of a character drama and less of a superhero spectacle. Of course, there's nothing wrong with that intention - Logan thrived with a similar approach. But while the trailers for the James Mangold flick carried an emotional weight and depth, the one for Simon Kinberg's directorial debut is just outright boring.

Of course, the Dark Phoenix trailer shows off the X-Men in costumes inspired by Grant Morrison's New X-Men. It also teases the death of one of the mutants. But that's pretty much all that 20th Century Fox could come up with to win approval for their second attempt in adapting the popular Dark Phoenix Saga storyline. Anyway, you can check out the trailer below along with a new poster for the movie!

And here’s the updated official synopsis for the movie!

In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.
