Matt Reeves compares Batman and Planet of the Apes' Caesar!

Bats and apes may not have much in common, but Matt Reeves believes that DC Comics' Batman and Planet of the Apes' Caesar are more similar than people think!

Reeves directed Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and its upcoming sequel, War for the Planet of the Apes. He’s also set to call the shots for The Batman. During a recent interview with the Los Angeles Daily News, he pointed out some striking parallels between the two characters:

It's a strange thing to be involved in the two franchises which were the two that I was connected to most as a child. I just was obsessed with Batman when I was a kid. What I find so interesting about him as a character is that, as far a superhero goes, he's not superhuman, he is a person. And he is a tortured soul who is grappling with his past and trying to find a way to be in a world that has a lot that's wrong with it and trying to find a way to reconcile all of that. That is a really powerful character, in the same way that Caesar is such a powerful character.

You may not agree with the director’s comparison of Bruce Wayne and Caesar, but be glad that he’s passionate about the DC superhero. During the interview, Reeves revealed that he’s still busy with post-production work on War for the Planet of the Apes, and he hasn't had time to figure out exactly how he'll approach Batman’s first solo outing in the DC Extended Universe.

The director's remarks fell in line with a report from last month that suggested he'd be tied up with the third Planet of the Apes installment until the end of June, at the earliest. The report went on to say that it's unlikely that The Batman would start filming before 2018. Another report claimed that the script was being "rewritten from the ground up" so Reeves could tailor the movie "to his sensibilities".
