Matthew Vaughn Invited Mark Millar to Collaborate on Man of Steel 2!

Mark Millar reveals that Matthew Vaughn had urged him to collaborate on Man of Steel 2!

Rumors that Warner Bros. has been looking at Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: First ClassKingsman movies) as a potential director for Man of Steel 2 have been making the rounds, and the  director eventually confirmed them. And now we have additional information, courtesy of comic book writer Mark Millar.

The author of Marvel Comics’ iconic Civil War and Old Man Logan recently told El Fanboy Podcast (via Joblo) that Vaughn asked him to collaborate on the project after the studio approached him about directing the second standalone Superman movie. Millar gushed that they’re both massive fans of the DC Comics superhero, worship Richard Donner, and love the Christopher Reeve movies, then added:

He actually phoned me up a few months ago, and he said, “Hey, listen, DC, they're very interested in me doing Man of Steel 2. Do you want to come in and do this?” And I was like, “I'm exclusive to Netflix for years. We can't even have that conversation.” And he was like, “Oh, man. What’s the chances of this?” And then he kind of drifted away. And he's attached himself to a couple of things, and all that.

The idea that Vaughn reached out to Millar about Man of Steel 2 isn’t too far-fetched, since the two teamed up in 2008 to put together a Superman trilogy that never came to fruition. But Millar’s comments about Vaughn’s drifting away have us scratching our heads, because Vaughn recently shared that he’s still in discussion with Warner Bros. about a few things. Wouldn’t you think one of those things would be a solo movie for the Last Son of Krypton?

We did hear from Vaughn about his take if he did happen to sign on for a Superman movie. During his interview, Millar offered some insight into their plans:

It was actually a massive, uplifting, hopeful thing. There's no point in doing Superman unless you feel good. You should walk out of Superman just feeling like a million dollars. You should feel great after a Superman film. The movie itself was going to be a big, vast, fun epic. But Superman's got to be a laugh, as well.
