Lea Thompson Wants to Reboot Howard the Duck!

Lea Thompson plans to pitch a Marvel Cinematic Universe installment featuring Howard the Duck to Marvel Studios. And she'd like do it very soon.

In 1986, Thompson starred as Beverly Switzler in Willard Huyck’s Howard the Duck. The movie was a critical and commercial failure, but it nevertheless amassed quite a cult following over time. Thompson told Inquisitr that fans frequently tell her that they love the movie, and she's in complete agreement:

I love Howard the Duck, the person. I love the duck. I loved the duck in the movie; maybe I took my part too far, and now I still love the duck. I wish that he had his due, because I don’t think they had the technology to do Howard the Duck well. So I hope that Marvel does do another Howard the Duck, and does him proud.

The interviewer then mentions that Howard the Duck has contributed cameos to a couple of Marvel movies, and asks whether Thompson would consider joining the MCU. Her response:

Oh, my God, from your lips to God’s ears. I don’t know. To tell you the actual truth, I am going to Marvel to pitch Howard the Duck, a new movie...In like three weeks. I want to direct the Howard the Duck remake . Why not dream big, right?

Fans loved the Howard the Duck scenes in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, but James Gunn indicated some time ago that there were no plans for a Howard the Duck movie. But the ill-tempered, anthropomorphic duck survived Thanos’ snap in Avengers: Infinity War, so Marvel may have plans for him.

Thompson's directing credits have been limited to various small-screen projects, such as The Goldbergs and Switched at Birth. Directing a full-length film might be a challenge, but starting out with a movie about a favorite character might just be what Thompson needs to be successful.
