Rumors about Krypton started up in October. Saturated by the massive prequel-ing trend fuelled by DC, some fans raise voice against such an initiative. Others, on the contrary, look forward to seeing the prospect materialize. What happened before Superman could be a story in itself.

But once a prequel, always a prequel. Krypton is expected to unravel the chain of causality that led to the subsequent developments we're all familiar with. Just like Smallville did, exploring Clark Kent's teenage years. Or, why not, it will create a standalone character: who knows what future holds for the ever so expanding DC Universe?

Krypton has recently been confirmed. David S. Goyer and Ian Goldberg will join forces to produce and write this new series for SyFy, under the banner of Warner Horizon Television. David S. Goyer is no stranger to the DC Universe, so his presence in the project is enough of a guarantee that chances of success are high.

Krypton - not about Superman, not about Jor-El

The official synopsis says clearly: "From Warner Horizon Television and DC Comics, Krypton takes place years before the Superman legend we know, when the House of El was shamed and ostracized. This drama follows the Man of Steel’s grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Super Hero ever known".

So, here we are: Superman's grandfather is in the limelight. Connections to Superman would not even have to be so direct. A separate set with distinct characters: downright heroes and clear-cut villains worked out into a plot so far back to the past, that the very notion of referencing Superman seems a bit of a stretch.
