Harley Quinn Spin-Off - Who Should Join Her?

Harley Quinn spin-off? Why not?

While Suicide Squad hasn't even been released, all eyes are turned towards Harley Quinn, who is already said to steal every scene in the movie. Furthermore, besides what those who’ve allegedly seen the movie say, it appears that the studio is also satisfied with Margot Robbie's portrayal of the villainess. Thus, Warner Bros. is already considering a spin-off featuring Harley Quinn and some other DC female baddies (and not only).

Of course, this is just a rumor at this moment. And, of course, this is another reason for anxiety for the DC fans - it's not a good sign when a studio changes movie rosters so often.

However, if Margot Robbie's Harley will indeed be the highlight of an awesome movie, that spin-off cannot arrive soon enough. And I already know which characters I want to see joining Harley. This list is all about that - the villainesses and the heroines that need to appear in a Suicide Squad spin-off.

Check it out!

Katana

Katana is one of the very few actual heroes of Suicide Squad. Furthermore, she is also one of the few characters who actually possess superpowers. And I don't believe that she will die. As far as I am concerned, she has every chance of becoming a fan-favorite on the big screen, as well.

I do believe that she and Amanda Waller will have a major disagreement as Suicide Squad concludes, and this leads me to believe that Katana will go rogue for a while. Which is great, since this opens the possibility of her joining Harley Quinn in the spin-off.

So maybe she will act as the protector, the muscle, in this rumored flick. With her skills, she could be the only genuine fighter on the team. And this could lead to the further development of her character.

Yes, she is a superhero. However, even Batman found himself on the run, chased as if he were a bad guy. So this is a possibility we should take into account. Don't you agree?

Catwoman

She is the most well-known villainess from Batman's rogues gallery. And Carla Gugino is the actress to portray an aging Selina Kyle. Come on - you would also be interested in seeing her.

And the fact is that she’s not a straight-up supervillain, which would make things even more interesting. Her relationship with Bruce Wayne could also play an important part in such a spin-off, just as her relationship with Gotham's criminal underworld would. While Harley is definitely, at this point, at the peak of her stardom, Catwoman's character has developed over the course of more than 70 years - so she is definitely more attractive from this point of view.

Catwoman is also one of Gotham's Sirens, a team that also included Harley. So it all makes sense. This would also add a bit of tension between her and Harley, since Catwoman knows the secret identity of Batman. How would she keep it a secret?

I don't know. But I'd be interested in finding out.

Lady Shiva

While Katana would be interesting to see as the only trained martial artist of a Harley Quinn spin-off, there is one other character who could join her. And this character is Lady Shiva, who is known as one of the most skilled hand-to-hand combatants in the DC comic book universe. And it would be interesting, since Lady Shiva likes using just her bare hands in combat, as opposed to Katana. Imagine a fight between them, as it often happens in ensemble superhero flicks. It would be amazing.

I include Lady Shiva on this list not just because of her skills, but also because of the potential she brings in. She also has a connection with Bruce Wayne, having trained Tim Drake (one of the Robins). But, more importantly, she is the mother of Cassandra Cain, an even better martial artist than her mother and a Batgirl.

And there is something even more interesting - Shiva's affiliation with the League of Assassins. I'd like to see the League at work again. Probably because what we saw in the Dark Knight movies wasn't exactly the comic book version of the supervillains"¦

Poison Ivy

Poison Ivy (DC Wikia)

Poison Ivy is the third member of the Gotham Sirens who should be included in a Harley Quinn spin-off. Leaving aside her long history with Batman (she is, after all, one of his most enduring rogues), what is more interesting is her relationship with Harley.

And, obviously, I am talking about their romance. Bringing this love affair to the big screen should be a move that would please lots of fans - and, if I am not mistaken, this could also be a first LGBT relationship in a superhero flick.

Plus, she also has superpowers. Which is always nice, especially when most of the other characters are just skilled combatants. Poison Ivy was previously portrayed by Uma Thurman on the big screen - but I guess we can all agree that it wasn't the best portrayal of a comic book character.

So Poison Ivy would be a great addition to the roster.

Talia al Ghul

I'd like to see Talia al Ghul as a true supervillain, a worthy leader of the League of Assassins. And I'd like it even more if the Harley Quinn spin-off delves into her relationship with both Ra's al Ghul and Bruce Wayne. She would be the scorned woman who brings hell on earth - maybe even literally, if she enlists the help of actual supervillains.

Imagine a final showdown between her and the team she has to face. While in the comics she wouldn't stand a chance, Talia could prove to be more than what the team can handle. Especially if the team faced, beforehand, other supervillains. Take into account the Lazarus Pit, as well, and this would be a showdown for the ages.

Maybe it’s time for a female character as the big baddie of a superhero flick.

Killer Frost

Killer Frost (Comic Vine)

If the Suicide Squad has Diablo, the Harley Quinn spin-off should have Killer Frost. Able to absorb heat from all sources and transform it into waves of cold, she would be a nice addition - especially since she also has superpowers. She can create projectiles, she can create hard walls of ice, and she can freeze living matter just by touching it.

Killer Frost may not be such a well-known character. And she may not have as interesting a history as other characters on this list. But this doesn't mean at all that she wouldn't contribute to the success of a movie.

Plus, she would be the character who proves how real a threat is. You know what I mean.

Female Furies

If Darkseid is coming, then his personal bodyguards will also appear. If Batman is indeed the brains of the Justice League, the ruler of Apokolips would want to take him out - especially if Batman is the one to come up with a plan to defeat Steppenwolf, the first Justice League villain on the big screen.

This could be the plot of the Harley Quinn spin-off - the ragtag team realizing that Earth is lost without the Dark Knight and going after the superpowered beings sent to kill him.

In this way, the Female Furies would be the superpowered beings to assist Talia al Ghul, the betrayed woman (there is no connection in the comics, but it doesn't really matter - this would be a film). And the studio has plenty of Female Furies to choose from.

By bringing them in, Warner Bros would better connect the movie with the larger DCEU.

Big Barda

Big Barda (Comic Vine)

Big Barda (Comic Vine)

Big Barda is the most prominent member of the Female Furies, and also the strongest of them all. The leader of the Furies, she'd be too much for any team of supervillainesses. However"¦

In the comics, Big Barda defected and fled on Earth. Maybe this will be the moment when she does it in the DCEU. And if she does that, the team could stand a chance against Talia's League and the Female Furies.

The introduction of Barda would also explain some of the technologies used by the New Gods - namely, the Mother Boxes. I can bet that they will be explained a bit in the Justice League film. However, more would be better. A Big Barda flashback, with her brutal training, would be great from this point of view.

What do you think? Which other female characters should make it into the Harley Quinn spin-off?
