Gambit to Begin Filming in March!

Gambit was initially scheduled for a 2016 release, but the movie never actually went into production, although a couple of directors had been announced and a female protagonist (Léa Seydoux) cast alongside Remy LeBeau (Channing Tatum). Tatum said on more than one occasion that the project was moving forward, even as comic book movie fans everywhere lost all hope.

Apparently, Gambit needed a little push from Deadpool and Logan, which were set in the same shared universe, but were completely different from anything we’d previously seen. During summer 2017, Tatum said that because Deadpool and Logan had opened some doors, writers were working on a new script for Gambit.

After a new release date was set, it was reported (but not officially confirmed) that Gore Verbinski (original Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy) would begin shooting in February 2018.

However, an undisclosed official source recently told Omega Underground that filming for the spin-off would actually begin in March 2018, one month later than originally reported. Since that report, there’s been speculation that principal photography should wrap by July or August 2018.

So far Channing Tatum and Lizzy Caplan are the only officially announced cast members for Gambit. It’s likely that Caplan was cast in the role that Léa Seydoux had vacated. As the shooting date nears, we can expect to hear additional casting news.

Before the script was rewritten, Gambit was going to cover the main character's origin story and his deal with Mister Sinister. It remains to be seen whether the new script will follow that storyline.

Gambit will be released on February 14, 2019.
