Ethan Hawke Wasn't Really Impressed by Logan

Even if it was released last year, Logan is still a subject debated by many - and, most recently, by Ethan Hawke. The star of movies such as the Before trilogy and Training Day has commented on Hugh Jackman's last outing as Wolverine during an interview with The Film Stage.

To be clear from the start, Ethan Hawke doesn't believe that Logan is a bad movie. On the contrary - the actor believes that it is a fine movie. But it is a fine one just for the superhero/ comic book movie genre.

Furthermore, the actor tried to explain how Hollywood tries to sell such movies as all-time greats not because the movies deserve it. The real reason is that superhero films make money. And Logan did make quite a lot, especially for an R-rated flick: $619 million worldwide on a reported $97 million budget.

Check out below what Ethan Hawke said:

"Now we have the problem that they tell us Logan is a great movie. Well, it's a great superhero movie. It still involves people in tights with metal coming out of their hands. It's not Bresson. It's not Bergman. But they talk about it like it is. I went to see Logan cause everyone was like, "This is a great movie" and I was like, "Really? No, this is a fine superhero movie." There's a difference but big business doesn't think there's a difference. Big business wants you to think that this is a great film because they wanna make money off of it.

And he is right. For example, Boyhood (for which Ethan Hawke was nominated at the Academy Awards) has been unanimously loved by the critics. Nonetheless, it didn't even make a dent at the box office, when compared to any comic book movies.

But what do you think about what Ethan Hawke said?

Is he right and Logan is just a fine comic book movie? Or is Logan one of the greatest movies of recent history?
