Edgar Wright Would Direct a DCEU Movie

Edgar Wright, who is one of the best directors of his generation, is best known for The Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy, three movies that spoof various genres starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. His style is undeniably unique, and this led Marvel to hire him as director of 2015's Ant-Man.

However, after putting in nearly a decade of work on the project, Wright had to part ways with the studio due to creative differences. It was said at the time that the director clashed with the studio when he was asked to add references to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The director recently revealed that he hasn't seen Peyton Reed's Ant-Man and that it’s not likely that he’ll ever see it. Wright also said that he wanted to make a Marvel flick, but Marvel didn't want to make an Edgar Wright movie. He added that directing for a major studio such as Marvel/Disney means becoming less emotionally invested, and we appreciate that, since it means that he isn't ready to start making movies just for the money.

While promoting his latest movie, Baby Driver (which appears to be his most critically acclaimed movie to date), the director was asked if he would direct a DC Extended Universe movie for Warner Bros. His response:

I don't know. I'm really not too familiar with their heroes, so I couldn't say which one I would do (Screen Geek).

Man of Steel (Movie Web)

At one time, it was rumored that Wright was in consideration to direct Man of Steel 2. His response seems to leave the door open for this possibility. However, others have speculated that his style would be a better fit for a movie such as The Flash, which still lacks a director.

To be noted, Warner Bros. parted ways with The Flash director Rick Famuyiwa because of his unique style. So, while Edgar Wright hasn't ruled out directing a DC Extended Universe flick, is Warner Bros. willing to gamble on him?

Baby Driver is a critical hit, and if it’s also a financial success, we feel that Warner Bros. will think twice before dismissing him as a director.
