Deadpool 2: Stephen Lang Thinks It's “Highly Unlikely” They'd Cast Him As Cable!

Stephen Lang doesn't thin Fox would sign him for Cable role in Deadpool 2!

Ever since it was confirmed that Nathan Summers, aka Cable, would appear in Deadpool 2, the Internet has been flooded with suggestions from the fans about who might be the best fit for the role.

We’ve published our own list, too, and three out the seven actors that appeared on it have expressed interest in playing the character - Stephen Lang, Dolph Lundgren, and Ron Perlman.

Despite the fact that Stephen Lang still wishes to portray Cable, he thinks that 20th Century Fox would eventually not consider him for the part. Why? He’s already committed to doing Avatar sequels that belong to the same studio.

Here's how the 64-year-old actor explains his view in a recent interview with Cinema Blend:

I think it’s highly unlikely that they would ever give me the part, for a number of reasons, one of which being that it’s the same studio as Avatar. It’s conceivable it would be a scheduling conflict, but you know, what I’ve said is that if they did give me the part, they’d be very satisfied – because I’ll play the hell out of the part.

Lang adds that if the studio doesn't sign him for the part, he would be "magnanimous in defeat" and would "compliment the actor who does get the part"! And then he would console himself with "four sequels of Avatar"!

Fox has yet to announce release dates for Deadpool 2 and the Avatar sequels. But David Cameron has made it clear that he will shoot all of the four sequels simultaneously, and they will roll into theaters in December 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2023.

On the other hand, the Merc with a Mouth's second standalone movie is expected to kick off production in early 2017. Plus, the actor who gets the Cable role is likely to sign a multi-picture deal, as an X-Force spinoff is reportedly in the works, too. So, there are a lot of ifs and buts to consider.

Stephen Lang claims he hasn't done much in the way of campaigning for the role of the time-traveling mutant. He just kindled the fire and is letting fans keep the flames burning! The actor says:

The extent of my campaigning for the role was the initial Tweet, and then after that, what I do is, when people do fan art where they make me Cable, I retweet it, because I think it’s cool. Because why not? Because, quite frankly, it’s a win-win situation.
