Gotham City Sirens Isn’t Dead Yet!

David Ayer says that Gotham City Sirens is still in development!

David Ayer's Gotham City Sirens is apparently still happening, although it doesn’t look as though the movie’s going to arrive anytime soon.

It’s been a year since we first heard that Warner Bros. had a live-action adaptation of DC Comics’ Gotham City Sirens in the works. The superhero team includes Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy. It was reported that rather than directing a Suicide Squad sequel, Ayer would direct a spin-off written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet.

However, there’s been no further news about the movie since it was announced. We did hear some rumors of a movie about Harley Quinn and The Joker, but we learned sometime later that the films would move forward separately.

Warner Bros. announced their upcoming DC Films slate at both  San Diego Comic-Con International and Brazil's Comic Con Experience, but made no mention Gotham City Sirens. And with Justice League’s lackluster box office performance, there’s been speculation that the studio may be a bit more circumspect about giving movies the green light in public from now on.

However, Ayer evidently doesn't feel that his superhero movie is in any sort of danger. During a recent interview, Steve Weintraub of Collider asked the director about the status of Gotham City Sirens. The director’s response:

It's in development.

Ayer's terse response didn’t inspire a great deal of hope. Gotham City Sirens has been “in development” for a year, so the remark actually indicates little to no progress. Presumably, there’s a lot going on behind the scenes, so we may have to take solace in just knowing that the director hasn't simply moved on.
