Marvel Comics Just Announced a Deadpool Reboot

The Merc With the Mouth is getting the reboot treatment. Marvel Comics has announced that the Wade Wilson will be getting a brand new ongoing series this November with a series simply titled Deadpool. Kelly Thompson is set to pen the book with Chris Bachalo providing the art. This comes as something of a surprise. Yet, at the same time, it's just business as usual for the publisher.

It had been previously revealed that the team of Skottie Young and Nic Klein would be exiting the current Deadpool ongoing after issue #15. We've also got Dana Schwartz and Reilly Brown's Deadpool Annual #1 set to arrive later this month on August 21st. It was expected that Marvel would pass the book onto a new team following the annual. Instead, we're getting a reboot. Thompson confirmed the news on Twitter.

"BIG ANNOUNCEMENT! I'm writing the new Deadpool ongoing," Thompson said on Twitter. "It begins in November. The art is by the absolutely incredible Chris Bachalo, which is two dream come trues for me in one shot!"

Here is the official synopsis for Deadpool #1

"Deadpool is the merc for money and his latest target is THE KING OF THE MONSTERS! When the monsters set up their new kingdom on the magical land of Staten Island, Deadpool's mission is to return control back to the people! Will Deadpool use his smooth charisma or deft diplomacy? Or will Wade just skip right to regicide?"

The announcement was included in the latest edition of Marvel's Pull List, which previewed their November lineup and included previews of other titles such as Scream: Curse of Carnage, Morbius, X-Men, Fallen Angels, New Mutants, X-Force and Absolute Carnage. We've included the full video right below for anyone who would like to check it out.

The previous Deadpool book was part of a pretty massive freshening up of the Marvel Comics publishing line that happened last year. That's partially why it's so surprising to find out we're already getting a reboot with a fresh #1. On the other hand, it's become increasingly common for Marvel to end books in favor of new ones to help boost sales, and to keep things interesting.

Deadpool has been a huge part of Marvel Comics ever since he debuted in the pages of X-Force back in the 90s. However, things were elevated to another level when Ryan Reynolds finally was able to bring a faithful adaptation of the character to the big screen in 2016, which was followed up by last year's highly successful Deadpool 2.

At present, Disney, who now controls all of the Marvel properties previously held by Fox, is trying to figure out how to fold Deadpool into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They fully intend to keep it going, it's just a matter of making the character's R-rated sensibilities fit in with their PG-13 universe.

So what do you think? Is this Deadpool reboot appealing? Will you be picking it up this November? Sound off in the comments! And be sure to check out the full version of the cover art from Deadpool #1 below.
