Captain Marvel TV Spots Show Skrull Shapeshifting And Carol Mocking Fury!

With three weeks remaining until the theatrical release of Captain Marvel, Marvel Studios has dropped two new TV spots for the movie containing new footage.

We already know that the Skrulls, led by Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos, are the baddies in Captain Marvel. We also know that something this alien race is very good at is transforming their physical form and taking on any disguise they like. But in one of the two new commercials for the March 8 release, we see for the first time shapeshifting in progress as a Skrull takes on human disguise. It belongs to the train fight scene that has been part of almost every promotion video for the movie.

The other TV spot finds Carol Danvers pulling Nick Fury’s chain. “So you have superhuman strength, and you can shoot lasers from your hands - is there anything I'm missing,” Samuel L. Jackson’s character asks, gleefully, to Brie Larson’s titular superhero as they stand alongside Clark Gregg’s Phil Coulson. Carol responds in a sarcastic tone, “Congratulations Agent Fury, you have finally asked a relevant question.” Now that’s what you call a mic drop moment.

Captain Marvel, according to some websites, was once eyeing a massive $140-160 million domestic debut. But those long-range tracking numbers seem to be wide off the mark. Deadline suggests that the current box office projections are pointing towards a $100 million North American opening weekend for the Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck flick. That is still an impressive figure, on par with that of Wonder Woman. And of course, the movie might end up performing better if the reviews are just like the ones for most Marvel Cinematic Universe installments released so far: overwhelmingly positive.

Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom. The film stars Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Rune Temte, Algenis Perez Soto, Mckenna Grace, with Annette Bening, with Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.
