Black Adam: Dwayne Johnson Teases Character Development

Black Adam

Black Adam is, as we like to simplify things, the established villain in DC's Shazam! (to be released April 5, 2019).

DC's slate until 2020 also includes the upcoming Suicide Squad, two Justice League movies, and four solos: Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash and Green Lantern.

But Shazam! is already in the public eye, and it's not because of whatever marketing machine set in motion. It's because lead man Dwayne The Rock Johnson is such a charismatic and popular actor we all wait to see starring in a comic book movie!

Dwayne Johnson is so keen on playing Black Adam that he didn't hesitate to make it public back in 2014 via his Twitter account, dropping a most telling quote and confession about his role: "Kneel at his feet or get crushed by his boot.' My honor to become.. #BlackAdam #TheAntiHero #DCComics.

Now, a new wave of enthusiasm and possible indications about Black Adam's development come from Dwayne Johnson.

Black Adam: "a unique type of villain"

Well, that's how The Rock describes his character in an interview with Hey U Guys. But how exactly is Black Adam unique?

One might say The Rock simply got carried away and oversells his character. Could it be so? I doubt it. "˜Cause here's what the man says:

"He's a unique type of villain. When you start off as a slave, you're not in a good mood! There's a heavy wrath that a lot of people have to pay".

And here comes the punch: "But when it's fuelled by a righteous anger if you will, like Black Adam, then you open up to what the character can be which I'm really excited about. That's why he's not just a straightforward bad guy".

So, "not just a straightforward bad guy"? This slip of the tongue - is it? - fuels the rumor Black Adam won't eventually turn up to be the clear-cut villain.

Plus, the fact The Rock's character starts off as a slave - as the actor mentions - is a clear indication Shazam! pulls from DC's New 52, at least as far as Black Adam's origin story is concerned.

However, hit the jump to hear The Rock speak (video courtesy of Hey U Guys)!

The Rock had his say

Now, what do you guys think? Is Dwayne Johnson letting us know there's a chance Black Adam will clear his name in Shazam! and leave his villain days behind?

Would you like to see The Rock playing a hero rather than a villain? Have your say below! And stay tuned, we’ll bring you the hottest scoop on all things Shazam!
