Birds Of Prey To Wrap Production In April; Screenwriter Promises Tons Of DC Comics Surprises!

The wrap date for Birds of Prey production has apparently been revealed!

The wrap date for the Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn) production has apparently been revealed while screenwriter Christina Hodson has shed some light on what to expect from the movie.

Soon after Cathy Yan had signed on to direct Birds of Prey, we came across rumors suggesting that the cameras would start rolling in mid-January 2019. The rumors started making more sense when Warner Bros. began recruiting actors and actresses for various roles and were eventually confirmed by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who would be playing Huntress in the February 7, 2020 release.

Now, HN Entertainment has come up with a wrap date for the production. According to the website, the principal photography will conclude around April 13, 2019. As revealed in the past, the movie will be filmed mostly, if not in its entirety, in Los Angeles, California.

Wrapping up production in mid-April would leave director Cathy Yan and her team with around ten months to accomplish the various post-production chores. And like any other tentpole venture, the upcoming female-driven DC Extended Universe installment can be expected to have a few weeks' worth of reshoots, which will presumably take place sometime in the second half of 2019.

From what we have learned, Birds of Prey finds Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn putting together a team of badass female characters that include Elizabeth Winstead's Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell's Black Canary and Rosie Perez's Renee Montoya. The girl gang is set on protecting Ella Jay Basco's Cassandra Cain, who has somehow come into possession of a diamond belonging to Ewan McGregor's Black Mask. Chris Messina's Victor Zsasz will also factor into the story.

In a recent interview with ComicBookMovie, screenwriter Christina Hodson refrained from discussing the plot, but promised tons of DC Comics surprises in the movie. Here's what she said:

I'm super excited about the cast, about the characters. And it's really fun and different and honestly, I think aside from the fact that, obviously, the studio would like me to not say anything, I think it's fun not to say anything yet because that means there's going to be whole bunch of fun little surprises for fans and for new people to the DC universe to discover.

In a separate interview with CBR, Hodson made it clear that the movie won't pull from any one comic book storyline. According to the Bumblebee scribe:

[The characters] have all been through so many different iterations. What's exciting is, I'm not just taking one canonical thing and then doing my own spin. There've been many different versions of them, and I get to pick and choose the best bits.
