Birds Of Prey Adds How I Met Your Mother Alum!

With cameras rolling on Birds of Prey for a month now, the movie has added yet another cast member. This time, it's a How I Met Your Mother alum.

Deadline reports that Charlene Amoia, who portrayed Wendy the Waitress in HIMYM, has landed a role in Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). She is playing the comic book character Maria Bertinelli: the mother of Helena Bertinelli, aka the Huntress, and the wife of Gotham City mob boss Frank Bertinelli.

Falling in love with a member of a rival crime family, the Cassamentos, she hatched up a plan to kill her husband and move to Italy with her children and lover. But the Cassamentos betrayed her, killing not only her husband but also her son, and forcing her to escape to Italy. Later, she returned to the U.S. and became the mob boss known as Fenice. Whether the Cathy Yan flick sticks to her story from the source or cooks up an entirely different one remains to be seen.

The Huntress, portrayed by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, is a key member of the Birds of Prey team. Other members of the all-female team are Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Jurnee Smollett-Bell's Black Canary, Rosie Perez's Renee Montoya, and Ella Jay Basco's Cassandra Cain. Ewan McGregor is playing the big baddie Black Mask, with Chris Messina bringing to life the villainous Victor Zsasz.

The supporting cast also includes Ali Wong (American Housewife), Robert Catrini (Jack Reacher: Never Go Back), Steven Williams (The Chi), Derek Wilson (Future Man), Dana Lee (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Francois Chau (The Tick), Matthew Willig (Blunt Talk), and Talon Reid (Fred 2: Night of the Living Fred).

Apart from her recurring role in the long-running CBS series, Charlene Amoia is known for her role in the fourth American Pie installment, American Reunion. She has also appeared in television shows like The Mentalist, General Hospital, American Horror Story, and Grey’s Anatomy. Birds of Prey is going to be her second DC Comics-based project, as she is set to appear in an upcoming episode of The CW’s The Flash.
