Benedict Cumberbatch compares Doctor Strange and Sherlock!

Doctor Strange is this year’s next and last movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Benedict Cumberbatch will portray the titular superhero. Captain America: Civil War, Marvel’s first movie of the year, did introduce new superheroes such as Spider-Man and Black Panther, but didn't feature the Sorcerer Supreme.

At one point, it was speculated that Civil War's post-credits scenes would offer our first glimpses of Doctor Strange on the big screen, but Marvel Studios had different plans. That means that the character will be introduced for the first time in his own standalone movie.

We already know that Doctor Strange will be a part of Marvel's presentation at San Diego Comic-Con International 2016, which kicks off next week. And, as a part of their Comic-Con preview issue, Entertainment Weekly has released a portrait of Cumberbatch's mystical superhero casting a spell. The studio will distribute it to the fans attending SDCC.

Apart from the image, they also have a brief interview with Benedict Cumberbatch. The British actor was asked to draw parallels between the neurosurgeon-turned-sorcerer Stephen Vincent Strange and his most adored character, Sherlock Holmes from the BBC One series Sherlock. And here's how he responded:

The two men are intelligent. Finito. That's it. Stephen Strange is a lover, he's a materialist, he's arrogant, but he's got a great sense of humor. There are smatterings of the same colors that Sherlock has, but he's not on the spectrum.

Of course, Doctor Strange and Sherlock Holmes are two very different characters with different superpowers (it would be understatement to not term Sherlock's detective skills as superpowers)!

But those who were vexed about Doctor Strange being too dark can now feel a bit more relaxed, considering the fact that Cumberbatch claims that his character has "a great sense of humor". Mads Mikkelsen, who plays Kaeciliusrecently said that the movie has "some" humor.

Here's the new Doctor Strange portrait, created by artist Ryan Meinerding!
