Ant-Man Sequel Officially Announced!

With the release of Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man, the Phase Two of the biggest superhero franchise Marvel Cinematic Universe came to an end. The July 17, 2015 release wasn’t one of the biggest money makers for the Marvel Studios – bagged a decent $400 plus million worldwide out of its $130 million budget. But we could pretty much assume that a sequel of Ant-Man is coming in near future, couldn’t we? And actually, it’s INDEED coming!

Ant-Man Ant-Man 2 is coming!

Marvel has officially confirmed that a sequel for the Paul Rudd starrer superhero flick! The second solo outing of Ant-Man will hit the theaters on JULY 6, 2018 as the twentieth installment of the MCU. The sequel is scheduled between Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 and Captain Marvel (its release date has also been changed along with Black Panther and we’ll get to that later in this post).

The Sequel’s Title - Ant-Man and The Wasp!

Ant-Man and The Wasp Ant-Man and The Wasp

The title of the sequel of Ant-Man has also been announced by the studio. The second solo outing of the size-shifting Marvel superhero will be titled ANT-MAN AND THE WASP! What does that mean?

Well, that obviously means that we will get to watch a full-fledged Wasp appearance in the sequel. It isn't going to be just Hope van Dyne show unlike the first Ant-Man movie. We could assume that Marvel won't be neglecting the female superhero that stands at the 99th position on IGN's list of 100 Top Comic Book Heroes of All Time.

The Wasp The Wasp

With the inclusion of the name of Evangeline Lilly’s MCU character, this movie is going to be the first among the MCU flicks to have the name of a female superhero in its title! Captain Marvel was about to become that first movie with a female superhero's name in the title. However, Carol Danvers' solo flick still remains the first MCU standalone female superhero movie.

Black Panther & Captain Marvel Rescheduled!

Captain Marvel & Black Panther Captain Marvel & Black Panther

With the announcement of Ant-Man and The Wasp, Marvel has made changes on the release dates of two MCU Phase Three flicks – Black Panther & Captain Marvel. While Black Panther has moved ahead to FEBRUARY 16, 2018, Captain Marvel has been pushed back to MARCH 8, 2019. The previous release dates for the two movies were July 8, 2018 and November 2, 2018 respectively.

Black Panther Black Panther

That means Black Panther has moved ahead of the first part of Avengers: Infinity War instead of being released very next to the movie. That might need T'Challa's standalone flick to undergo some change in script to maintain continuity. Obviously, Marvel is aware of that!

Captain Marvel AKA Carol Danvers Captain Marvel AKA Carol Danvers

Meanwhile, the previous release date of Captain Marvel - the 2nd of November - is rumored to be the date on which Warner Bros has planned to release the untitled Batman solo flick. That might be the actual reason why the studio has found it safe to shift the date - nobody wants to mess with BATMAN!

Release Dates of 3 Untitled Flicks Announced!

Marvel Cinematic Universe MCU

Another exciting segment of the announcement is the inclusion of release dates of three new MCU movies in 2020. The dates are MAY 1, JULY 10 and NOVEMBER 6 of the year. They haven’t, however, announced the titles of these movies yet.

But we can pretty much assume that each of them falls under the MCU Phase Four. Phase Three has already got eleven movies now which is just one short in number than Phase One (six movies) and Phase Two (six movies) combined! They are unlikely to extend Phase Three to a FOURTEEN movies long phase!

guardians Guardians of the Galaxy

We predict one of them to be the third installment of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. That series is one of the most promising ones and Marvel won't likely leave it without completing a trilogy.

The other two might be the sequels for either of Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Black Panther or Captain Marvel. Each of these superheroes will get a sequel for sure in the long run!

Iron Man Iron Man

May we have an IRON MAN 4? Once we had heard rumors that suggested a replacement of RDJ's Tony Stark for the superhero's mantle. Or the solo outing of a new superhero? All of that is a mystery at the moment.
