Zack Snyder Claims that He Didn't Change Superman!

Zack Snyder thinks he hasn't changed Superman!

Zack Snyder could not impress everyone with his 2013 flick, Man of Steel. The first DC Extended Universe installment bagged mixed reviews from both fans and critics. There were a number of complaints, including that there was too much destruction and that there were too many changes to the titular superhero. While the director has defended against the first allegation before, we haven't heard him address the second one.

Zack Snyder spoke about the second criticism during a recent appearance on the Hall of Justice podcast. According to the director, he actually hasn't changed the Son of Krypton! Here's what he said (via Comic Book):

If you're a comic book fan, you know that I didn't change Superman. If you know the true canon, you know that I didn't change Superman. If you're a fan of the old movies, yeah I changed him a bit. That’s the difference.

The director claimed that he's "a comic book fan" and he always reverts to "the true canon". In his opinion, the cinematic canon "plays fast and loose with the rules". So, he feels like he attempted to create a Superman that would "set a tone for the world".

Zack Snyder Explains Pluses of Separate Universes for DC TV & Movies!

Zack Snyder believes there are advantages of keeping movie and tv universes separate!

Zack Snyder believes there are pluses in having separate DC TV and movie universes!

While all of the present-day Marvel television shows are a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, DC/Warner Bros have kept their small screen universe separate from their big screen universe. Many fans are obviously not happy with it. But Zack Snyder thinks there are certain advantages to such an approach.

In the interview, the director stated that he has "100 percent respect and love" for the DC TV Universe, but he thinks the characters are "bigger" than any of the actors portraying them. In his opinion, a long while after he has made a Batman/Superman movie, there will be some other director making movie on these characters. He explained (via Screen Rant):

It's almost like an American tradition now; we've established that these characters will be played and played again, and they exist outside of us in this moment.

Zack Snyder recognizes that part of reality and is excited to have these characters co-exist in different universes. Here's what he said:

So that's the thing that I've embraced, and as opposed to just trying to shoehorn all these story lines into a single universe, we let the characters exist in the multi-universe, and, therefore, it's a lot more fun and it's a lot more value for the audience. They get to see their favorite and most beloved characters in different adventures at the same time, in different universes.

Well, both Marvel's single universe and DC's multiverse approaches have their pros and cons. And what worked for one might not work for the other!
