X-Men: Michael Fassbender’s Future is Uncertain

This year, Fox released two movies featuring mutants: Deadpool, which became the highest grossing R-rated flick of all time; and X-Men: Apocalypse, which seemed at times to be even worse than X-Men: Last Stand and  was also the last X-Men flick that Bryan Singer would direct (he says). So, at this point, and keeping in mind the failure to launch another solo franchise with Gambit, the future seems a bit uncertain for the Mutant Shared Universe.

Of course, other films are planned (Deadpool 2, New Mutants), but it isn't known whether the younger versions of Jean Grey, Cyclops, Storm, and others will return. Sure enough, it was said that the next film will see the mutants in the "˜90s, but following the release of X-Men: Apocalypse, nothing else was heard.

One might believe that the stars of X-Men: Apocalypse could offer some info. But no…While Jennifer Lawrence has once again expressed her desire to leave the franchise, and James McAvoy intends to appear in future movies (and he probably will, since he is Professor X, after all), Michael Fassbender has no idea what will happen next.

As he revealed during the promotional tour for Assassin's Creed, the actor can't make a decision at this point:

I don't know, to be honest. I haven't made any sort of decision on it because I have no idea what's happening next with the franchise, to be honest (via CBM).

At one point, he did express his desire to have more challenging roles (adding that Magneto is just a guy who screams a lot), but he didn't really say that he'd leave the franchise.

As far as we’re concerned, we'd rather see the X-Men facing a villain other than Magneto, who has been a mainstay since the first movie arrived back in 2000.

What do you think? Will the X-Men franchise show the same lack of creativity by continuing to rely on Michael Fassbender as the double-crossing antihero/villain? Or will Bryan Singer (who will still produce the movies) actually use some other iconic villains from the comic books?
