X-Men: Dark Phoenix - Rogue Rumors

Bryan Singer re-introduced several fan-favorite characters from the original trilogy in X-Men: Apocalypse, including younger versions of Jean Grey (Sophie Tuner), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), and Cyclops (Tye Sheridan). Singer’s final (presumably) X-Men movie also introduced the severely underused Psylocke (Olivia Munn), but Anna Paquin's Rogue didn’t return.

That will change with the next installment, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which will be another attempt to adapt the Dark Phoenix saga from the comic books. Of course, this is just a rumor, but it could turn out to be true if Bryan Singer agrees with fans that Rogue deserves a second chance.

Comic Book reported that a couple of actors have submitted audition tapes for X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Rarmian Newton (The Family) and Paul Mescal are reportedly auditioning for the roles of Shane and Sam. Alexa Swinton (Billions) submitted an audition for the role of Marie, and that happens to be Rogue’s real name.

Of course, it’s possible that the characters’ names are just code names, since this is a common practice for big productions such as this. On the other hand, they might be the characters’ actual names. Given that the movie is set in the ’90s, Swinton's youth makes sense. And, even if it weren't, who can actually make sense of the X-Men timeline?

If Rogue indeed appears, her role is likely to be small. But we hope that this means that her character will be developed beyond the one (rather lame) power she currently has as additional movies are released.
