Wonder Woman: Geoff Johns Can’t Confirm Sequel

Three DCEU movies have already been released, and two will be released this year. Based on box office performance, we feel that the DCEU is a hit. And now, sequels for Man of Steel 2 and Suicide Squad 2, as well as quite a few spin-offs such as Gotham City Sirens, are in development.

However, this doesn't mean that Warner Bros. is ready to announce additional follow-ups just yet, including a Wonder Woman sequel. The first movie looks amazing, if the trailers are any indication. It also appears that lots of fun was had during shooting, which is always a good sign for big blockbuster movies. But before a second movie focused on Diana Prince is announced, the first needs to be a hit.

Geoff Johns holds the DCEU’s reins, now that Zack Snyder is gone. Johns said at this year’s WonderCon that he can’t confirm whether there will be a Wonder Woman sequel (via Screen Rant), even though director Patty Jenkins has said that she has additional Wonder Woman stories in mind for the future.

This comes as a surprise, especially considering that Wonder Woman is a key Justice League member, and that a number of movies, including Gotham City Sirens and even Black Adam, are in development.

It’s also surprising if you take into account the other big shared comic book movie universe, which revolves around solo superheroes.

Does that mean that, as with Man of  Steel, we'll wait at least five years for a Wonder Woman sequel? Not at all. Maybe Geoff Johns is waiting to see audience reaction to the first installment. Maybe he’s waiting to finalize deals for other flicks that are in development.

However, we can be certain that Wonder Woman fans will have plenty to say in regard to the character’s future in movies.
